Company got some Christmas wish lists for area kids and one wanted an xbox. A group of us chipped in and bought it. Then we learned how fancy they are now and need to be updated prior to use.

I’m assuming if the kid’s parents are too poor to buy gifts, they might not have internet access to update this thing. Should I delicately unbox and update or am I overthinking this? I’m far from a gamer so please don’t judge my ignorance.

Dont unbox it. Might look weird at work, and boxes these days are tough to put back together perfectly

You may not want to give an Xbox to a family with no internet. They constantly need to update and often need to update a game as soon as you buy it and put it in. I am sitting right now as my Xbox downloads an update for a game for the second time in a week, this one is 1.94 GB.

Dang. Appreciate the input. Oh well, hopefully the kid knows this and I’m wasting time worrying.

I’m aware. But I’m holding out hope that it’s a hardworking single mom who just can’t quite give him his wish and for a few hours on Christmas morning he can be happy.

Chances are the kid knows practically everything about it... I wasn't aware he ask for it.

thoughtful thing to do. even more thoughtful to try to solve these issues before the kid gets it. kudos.

The internet thing might be an issue, but you'd be surprised how even low income families will prioritize things like internet and smart phones over other basic needs.

I don't see it being a bid deal to unbox and update. If you know the kids name you could even create a profile for him.
