Xbox 360 video problem

so here is my problem if anyone can help
I got the three rings of death a couple of weeks ago and got it fixed pretty quick.
Problem is that now it wont play videos from my external hard drive b/c of some video error, tells me to connect to xbox live. I dont have that where I am but I go to a place to fix it and everything works over there. Then I come back to my house and it doesnt fricking work again.
Anyone experienced this or know of a way to fix it so that I dont have to be connected to xbox live to play videos?
And dont tell me to get xbox live at my house, Im working on it but it may be a while.

Yeah, I have the problem where the audio and the game works. But there is no video. And all you can do is send it in again. I've had the problem for 5 months and have decided to just not get it fixed.

yeah, before all this I loved xbox but now I am done with it
