I have about 6 hrs in this and it’s the first “souls like” game that I’ve enjoyed. The combat is tough for me as I’m trying to get used to it. But I’m having fun.

just got to this boss and I can see why so many people hit a wall there, but for most people it's likely because they refuse to change tactics.

I tried this boss about 8-10 times and was getting absolutely chewed up, could barely get it to half way. It gets much harder at the 50% mark.

I then customized my gear and my build specifically to counter what the boss does in the fight and the next attempt got it down to like 10% and then beat it the attempt after.

I'm sure with enough time and practice I could have done it with my default build and gear, but I'm pretty sure they intend for you to counter them.

I just beat her. Super fun fight. I've been alternating between Axe and Longsword, so I used Longsword and put fire on it and it obliterated her. I found trying to stay away from her to bait her into that one attack that you can counter was my best bet.

So this is real creepy. Spin the camera around till the character is facing you… she will then look you dead in the eyes. It’s unsettling

For me I just switched to a spell based build real fast. She's extremely easy to dodge but very difficult to attack. So all I did was just dodge her to gain might charges and hurl spells at her, made the fight very easy.

Another thing I mentioned earlier as a problem with recent souls like, the game thus far is doing well at is keeping up the difficulty scaling. I have a much larger arsenal of weapons, skills, spells, etc. and am good at the combat but the game isn't letting me steamroll it. I'm probably 60% done if I had to guess and I still die out in the world regularly, despite having a lot of skill points and tools at my disposal.

I honestly had no idea this was coming to Game Pass till just now when I saw it on my XBox.

ETA: Did this come out last week? I was at a work retreat and almost totally disconnected.

I'm in the final endgame areas right now. Def. a hard arse game, the large trash mobs in the final area will chew you up 1 on 1. Having a lot of health and heals really doesn't help, they hit super hard and fast and you almost always die with heals in the bank.

The bosses that are sorta large Dark Souls esque monsters I handle with ease. The humanoids you have to duel are usually very hard. They are extremely aggressive and have insanely long combos and a huge variety ofthem. Getting hit once can be a death sentence as it starts this doom loop it's often times impossible to get out of. You pretty much have to memorize the most deadly combos and dodge them perfectly.

The trouble maker boss everyone complains about makes a reappearance and is insanely hard. She's thankfully optional and I believe beating her is necessary to unlock a different ending. There area apparently multiple good and bad endings. She's probably this game's equivalent of Malenia. Bitch is absolutely relentless.

I haven't kept track of which ones or how many, but on some bosses you can summon an NPC ally to fight with you if you like, but I haven't done that at all as I'm one of those purists in these games and view that as an absolute last resort if you happen to be hard stuck. I don't think it effects anything (although some NPC's have commented on me doing it without them so maybe it does).

Id rate it quite good. The term soulslike is overused but it's definitely a souls like. Anyone a fan of the genre will appreciate it because it's very well made and executed.

The pros are the world, lots of exploration and surprises, and danger. Very old school in that way. The boss fights are also good. I had at least 5 fights I really had to put in a bunch of attempts and really had to bring by A game for, which as a very experienced souls player is way more than usual.

The variety of weapons is also really good, they all feel viable and are vastly different and are a matter of preference.

The might system also encourages you to actually use ur spells too, which was nice as you don't have to invest in them for them to be useful.

The cons are all minor. The performance isn't optimal, occasionally small stutters for no discernable reason.

The story isn't particularly told well or compelling. They wanted it to be mysterious but I think most people will just completely ignore it as it is sorta incomprehensible.

The facial animation of the protagonist is basically non existent. Kind of uncanny valley as she has dead eyes and a thousand yard stare. Surprisingly the voice acting is quite good though.

The madness system was an interesting idea but isn't executed well. It's supposed to be this double edged sword, a system you need to manage and incorporate into your build. But as implemented you can basically ignore it as it has no real impact on anything except at full madness. In general madness is almost strictly better. It's just not flushed out well.

So ya it doesn't bring anything ground breaking to the table but it's an excellent non-Fromsoft Souls game.

Playing it sooner rather than later may be wise too if you want challenge, seems they already promised nerfs to things people complaining about. To me the difficulty is the primary draw, you gut that you just have blandness.

I did finish btw, I spent an entire hour completely redoing my skill tree and trying out new weapons and after I was done was much stronger and completely rolled the optional bosses I had left. Found a great combo that did a ton of damage and stun and it just blew them out of the water.

I'll likely do a NG+ playthrough over the next few weeks, I didn't miss much at all but there were a few small things and a few things to be done differently.

Thanks for the in depth reply. I’m probably about 5-6 hours in. I’m really enjoying it so far. Not much problems with performance on ps5 pro. I really really love how freely the game lets you experiment

I’m at this fight against this woman and she’s beating the shite out of me. I think I need to switch up my tactics and find out what kind of armor can best mitigate her attacks

Longsword, get behind her and R2 attack her to knock her down.

Yes, staggering bosses can be difficult but if you can find a build or attack that can do it consistently, can make all the difference. Allows you to get mega damage and cut the fight much shorter. The stagger animations for the bosses are long, as are their getting up animations so you can really punish them if they go down.

To build up stagger you gotta hit them from behind or hit them with heavy attacks/heavy weapons or hit them in a flurry of quick attacks or best of all do those things simultaneously. If you go too long without doing any of those things the meter resets so it promotes being aggressive.

As far as defenses, the armors kind of fall into categories. You got sets that are good against casters, sets good against physical, and then sets kind of in between.

Tanking hits in general is not a viable playstyle in this game, but having the right gear can make a huge difference in boss fights. I typcially rocked high phsyical resistance armor until I fought a boss that did a ton of magic/feathering damage in which case I switched to a magic set.

There are a few places where you also may want to swap into gear for specific resists. For example there are high poison (corruption) areas that putting on corruption resist gear will make your life easier.

Wish there was a way to track bosses and see if you’re missing any optional

All optional bosses except 1 are pretty easy to find imo, provided you fully explore all the various paths you can go through in every area.

I just looked up a walkthrough on neokseeker simply to see the list of optional bosses to make sure I knew all the ones in the game so I could make a list to ensure I get them all.

Want the link or a list?

I am only in chapter 3 im moving very slow and methodical

It's probably someone getting a kick out of his reactions.

td will learn eventually that being obsessive about downvoters only makes things worse
