How is classic/ the community? I've been thinking of jumping back into wow again after a 7 year hiatus. I was able to get blizzard to recover my old account on retail but haven't played yet. Which should i get if i get back into it?

It's as social as you remember it at release. Lots of grouping and communication. It's a blast and Barrens Chat is still Barrens Chat.

I never played vanilla. I joined around WotLK expansion up until Cataclysm. So i guess what i am asking is if i do get back into wow...what content is better to experience the classic stuff or the stuff on retail they released after Cataclysm?

Depends on what you mean by “better”
If you joined in WOTLK then you still got to experience Vanilla Kalimdor / Eastern Kingdoms.
The thing that makes classic good is the increased difficulty and sense of community, but post Cataclysm is more well polished and you actually feel like you’re apart of the story I guess.

Mostly spread out, I know a few are on asscandy (Ashkandi) but nothing organized that I know of.

In grouping in SM I have found these thing out.
Warriors think they should pull, even when they are lower level and their low level agro range creates problems. I pet park one add and the warrior runs over to get agro, pulling his mobs close to me so I can no longer shoot.
Mages go all out from the start of the encounter and scream "GET THIS OFF ME" then the healer heals them and the healer gets agro. They have no concept of threat management.
