Worth it to ever downgrade from 1440p to 1080p?

I built my PC in January 2019. RTX 2070, i5-9600K, 16GB DDR4, and got an ASUS 27" 1440p 144Hz monitor with G-Sync.
Fast forward to now.. the PC has been great, but it's definitely outdated and I cannot play the newest games, certainly not at 1440p. Unfortunately, downscaling to 1080p with a 1440p monitor is not ideal.
How bad would it be just to change to a 27" 144Hz 1080 p monitor? I might actually be able to somewhat enjoy Black Ops 6 in this case... because it's just too inconsistent for me no matter how much I tweak the settings.
On the other hand, I have been using 1440p for 5 years. I still play Overwatch 2 damn near daily and that game runs fine... I also do not have the time to really dive into much gaming anyway as it concerns story driven games, etc. Even though I am still working my way through some titles. Ghost of Tsushima runs great on my PC in 1440p on Steam.
But here is what I am considering..

Just want some thoughts.

Highly noticeable and you will absolutely hate it.
Especially if you are coming down from a 27" 144hz 1440p monitor. Everything will look grainy

I'd say frick Black Ops 6. Catch up on some other games that you may have missed.
Epscially if
No sense in sinking time into black ops which is basically designed to be a perennial grind.

Before I answer, do you already own the monitor you want to downgrade to, or would that be a new purchase?

It would be a new purchase, but honestly I think I already have my answer from this thread. Guess I can just work on backlog that I know will still run great and allow me to play at 1440p.
Overwatch is essentially my online FPS fix these days, which is fine - been on that game since May 23, 2016, and still going.
I have three new AC games
- really enjoying Origins so far, but I know it's a LOOOONNNG game. Don't want to do everything but I also don't want to ignore all side quests. Then I have Odyssey and Valhalla waiting.

And that was the core of my question. If you already had the monitor, frick it. Hook it up if you want.
If you’re talking about spending money on a monitor, dear god, no
Either play through your backlog or spend a few hundred bucks on a new GPU. If dropping resolution increases FPS, it means you’re GPU bound. No reason to worry about upgrading anything else yet.

1080p on any monitor above 24" is ROUGH to me.

BO6 will surely get some fixes to run better at 1440p on ur rig, might just take a couple patches

Worth it? Absolutely. Monster hunter wilds is about to come out and with modern hardware you need to spend at least $2k on a PC to be able to play it moderately well at 1440p because it's so poorly optimized.
1080p looks like shite once you get to a certain monitor size and viewing distance, but poorly optimized games may push people back to inferior resolutions just so they can stretch their current PCs further.

I'm all for people playing what makes them happy, so truly no judgment here, but... have you guys considered just not playing games that are so poorly optimized that you need cutting edge hardware to play it at a decades old resolution?

So don't play games we enjoy?

I was working under the assumption that, at some point in the future, it would be patched to be less shitty.
Are you telling me it's going to be shitty forever?
