Well, the running theme was the quality and reliability was better, but I never had issues with skype reliability so I can't speak for that one, and I haven't used TS in a while to be able to compare sound quality.
What I like is that it's a server, so no worrying about getting a person in on a call and them not answering because they had to go take a piss or something. You're just in the room and they'll get there when they get there. Also, you can set up multiple chat rooms is you have a lot of people using it. So you could have a minecraft channel, or one for this particular raid, or just a hang out room.
Skype works fine in a pinch, but it's not really ideal for something like an MMO.

Haven't used them in quite a while but the Vent client was much more stable back in 2007-2011. I remember the TS days in 04-06 but thought it had died out. When I do talk to old friends from from old MMO raiding days it seems like everyone is using Vent/Mumble/Discord still.
TBH I really do not have a personal preference. I do still have a Vent server which has auto-drafted from my PayPal for the last 4-5yrs.

Skype is terrible for gaming IMO. I hate hearing all the fckking noise. Remember when everyone tried going over to Skype and dropping their rented servers. It didn't take long for everyone to jump back.

W3 went overboard on making the DLC hard a shite!! I have seen three boss fights and they are harder than anything I saw in the regular game. It may because I am only lvl 32 but googling tells my that's not the case.

TS and Discord are the two most popular in my experience. I've only encountered one group that used Vent and they dumped it for TS in like 2 months.
