(UPDATE: I LOVE it now) Dragon Age: Inquisition - Am I doing something wrong?

I have put many hours into this game, and so far I feel as though I have accomplished nothing. I am so bored with it that I have not been able to bring myself to play it anymore.
I loved DAO (may be my favorite game ever) and came to really like DA2. This one feels as though they heard the complaints about DA2 and went overboard creating an open world game on steroids. All I do is walk around the Hinterlands repeatedly fighting the same fights and finishing pointless quests.
I must be doing something wrong. Surely Bioware couldn't have screwed up this big and created a truly meaningless game. I still only have my main 3 starting characters, and I have played close to 15 hours. I'm 7th level (if I remember correctly).
Any help and advice is appreciated. If the rest of you agree that the game is boring, then I won't bother wasting my time with it. I am hopeful that's no the case though
UPDATE: After following the advice here as well as reading similar suggestions online (which I would not have found without this thread leading me down the right path), I am loving this game. I started from scratch, ran through the main missions and got out of the Hinterlands as soon as I could. I now have recruited 4 new companions along with being close to completing the second major quest, all with about 5 hours less of gameplay than my first terrible playthrough.
This is a major flaw of the game though. There is nothing indicating or suggesting for us to not stick around Hinterlands. I understand now its purpose (to develop needed power points), but there needs to be a game mechanic to signify this to the players. There are many people online who had the same problems I did, so it's not a unique issue.
Anyway, thanks for the help. I'm glad I didn't give up on this

I enjoyed it and have played it twice, not sure what to tell you.

Just stick with it. The hinterlands is meh but the game really ramps up around level 10 with the story.

It does help to leave the Hinterlands, but yes the game has a lot of pointless quests that are very repetitive. The game does a lot right but I also think it got overrated.

Is there a way to streamline quests? What I mean is, how do I determine which are the main story ones and which are fluff? I will be done with this and get to the next area to see if it gets better. I find it nuts that I have gone this far and have yet to find my first companion outside of the starting three.

I don't remember there being any triggers to open up the early areas.
You can move on to the Storm Coast or Fallow Mire anytime you want from the map screen. Storm Coast had some good stuff in it. If you are still in the Hinterlands, I'm not surprised you're bored to death.
You haven't even opened up your primary base, it sounds like.

All of you stating to leave the Hinterlands gave me a good starting point to research on google. Found this article stating the same thing with some advice links withing it. Plus the reddit quote within the article is mildly funny.

So tonight I shall leave the Hinterlands and see what the game has to offer.

I would say head to the storm coast and get another companion.

Unpopular opinion here but welcome to DA:I. Honestly Hinterlands I'd my favorite part of the game as it is huge, visually interesting and packed with content. The other areas not so much. The quests in the other areas are by and large no more interesting than those in the Hinterlands

I'm thinking of starting over after reading some articles online. Apparently I may be overleveled now for the next few areas. I will try SC first and see how I do. Hopefully it's all good and I can continue as is.
Thanks for the help

Yeah when I read all the reviews they all said same; leave hinterlands as early as you can. Always advance story and move to new areas. The game is so much better that way.

If you like these kind of games I would suggest checking out Pillars of Eternity next.

I couldn't get into this game for the life of me.

I absolutely loved Witcher 3 (as you can probably tell). Would I enjoy Inquisition?

Outside of the fantasy setting, they are very different.

They are extremely similar in structure, but Witcher 3 is much more memorable. I'd say try it out.

This is my next game once I finish DAI. I will look into the suggestion from the poster right above you as well. That looks interesting too (don't recall the name of game he linked, and I'm on cellphone)
