I consider myself somewhat tech savvy but know jack shite about TVs. Currently I have a 49 in TCL series 4(It was like 350 brand new if I remember correctly) that is about 3 years old. It’s 4K and i can already tell a huge difference in graphics from my stock PS4, but I want to be blown away.

I’d like to keep it under a grand if possible.

I'm no expert but from what I've been told is you want something that has a refresh rate of 120Hz. 4K helps but the refresh is more important. You can get something that has both. From my experience in trying to find something I think a gaming monitor is the way to go. I have not bought anything yet.

XSX wont hit 4K/120 on 99% of games, but if you want to futureproof yourself and get something with support for it, get a LG CX. All 4 HDMI parts are 2.1

got a 77" last week and it's stunning

Just FYI LG has confirmed no fix possible for game VRR issues with next Gen consoles.

it's not even an issue completely overblown just like the 2.1 nonsense

95% of people won't notice a slight gamma shift in VRR mode. it can be calibrated out as well, people have posted settings on AV forums that render it practically unobservable. you can also just turn off VRR

still the best tv on the market by quite a bit

Oh it's definitely noticeable and a big issue they've gotten drilled for. 40Gbps HDMI 2.1 instead of 48Gbps.

Still a solid TV, but the 21's are where it's gonna be at for future proofing not the limited 2019/20 models with not full HDMI 2.1 causing multiple issues with no fixes coming. I would not recommend one for future proofing at all. Wait until next year with all the hdmi 2.1 problems fixed.

They may get lawsuits too, people reporting headaches from it.

Got a new TV in April, found out about HDMI 2.1 by summer . But, like you said, it isn't a big deal right now but I'll definitely be looking to upgrade once 4K/120 becomes the rule and not the exception.

nonissue. they didn't use 48 because it's a 10bit panel and would've been useless anyway

i was goign to wait for 2021 models, but many are speculating that the '21 panels are already too far into design/production to fix the gamma issue since it's just now being reported. so you better wait till '22 but surely the 22 panels will have an issue and you may have to wait till 23. i dont get stuck in the waiting cycle

Huh? My C9 has 48.

I believe the 21's have it fixed though.

your C9 is a 10bit panel just like the CX is. so it could have 40 or 48 and it still wouldn't make a difference. LG didn't spec the ports to 48 for the CX since it doesn't matter.

if the panels were 12bit, sure I'd be pissed over the 40.

based on what? nobody seems to believe that anywhere else

Right, but it has 48Gbps full HDMI 2.1 instead of the gimped version on the CX. But yes both have the gamma issue either way. I just wouldn't recommend soemthing for gaming with a host of issues and gimped main feature. LG got busted cutting some corners, and now have lawsuits coming for the issues it's causing with next gen consoles.

if all a 10bit panel needs to max itself out is 40gbps, why would they give it 48gbps? they did 48 for the C9, realized it was completely useless, and elected not to do it for the CX. if they do 12bit panels on newer TVs, I'm sure they will do 48gbps it's not complicated, you're not getting anything extra by having the higher spec'd port right now

yeah, the gamma issue is totally different altogether and has nothing to do with the HDMI ports. it affects every tv that has the same specs. I haven't been able to simulate the issue with my Series X, nor have countless others on r/oled. it's generally agreed upon that it's totally overblown thanks to Vincent Teoh.

VRR is mostly a hardware issue and won’t be solved until 2022 models. However there seem to be simple work arounds and calibrations that mitigate it. Also, it seems they're attempting to mostly solve it by putting out a dynamic Gamma curve for VRR.

It's about having the full HDMI 2.1 spec, not a gimped version. This is likely where their issues are coming from with the consoles, poor implementation of the new spec.

Vincent is the best in the game for a reason.

You people confuse me.

I’m thinking a Sony x90c or a tcl series 6

May wait until the new models to see if some of these features become more prevalent
