Redneck doesn't bother me. The term was originated from hard working people (sometimes poor farmers) working out in the fields and the long hours in the sun bent over working caused their necks to burn. I don't mind the term nor do I associate it with any bad or ignorant aspects of life. What I do mind is people saying redneck and white trash are synonymous. White trash is a form of lifestyle to me...not redneck.

My wife's family is from Cullman, AL where I pretty much created my opinion on these things. I guess my thing is that the term "Redneck" use to mean a hard working farmer, but now it seems to be more of a derogatory term used to describe extremely rude country bumpkins, or a term used by idiot high schoolers who think it's the "cool" thing to be a "Redneck" even though they drive their 40k truck their daddy bought them, while they apply at Harvard with parents paying the whole thing.. The term has just kinda lost its meaning.
I see "white" trash in a completely different light though.. some of my wife's distant family comes to mind.
