Yep. Found this out in high school. After I had been playing for 10 years without knowing. Only beating it once.

Ten year old me would have loved to have this information. However, I’m a better man for having never known this and having to grind all the way through without losing all my lives.

Doubtful.

Japanese games were huge on secrets deeply hidden within them at that time, which was a thing due to Tower of Druaga, which was kind of the precursor to Legend Of Zelda.
