I played a bit of MM right when it came out. The 3 day cycle didn't seem like a mechanic I would have fun with so I admittedly didn't give it a fair shake, with no desire to ever do so.

Admit it was a little overwhelming for a 11yr old at first, but once you understood the value it added to the world and story. Really made tracking the patterns in those 3days fun and finding new secrets.

Back to MM though..I think the 3 day cycle is unique and enjoyable. I can forgive the dungeons being a step down from OoT since the above ground world is a considerable step up in regards to challenging content

They are a step down, but not in complexity. They are more complex but not as fun and interesting. Inside of dungeons the mask switching can become annoying.

Yeah, you obviously wouldn't be a good judge of that
IMHO, OoT is so revered among fans, and with MM coming out relatively soon after OoT released and it "looking" like the same game, diehard fans of OoT probably get really defensive when you try to knock it off it's proverbial throne.
Plus with the new mechanics MM introduced, it's really easy to pick a side.

It adds a nice layer of complexity I think.
Like having to be a scrub to get into the flower to knock the turtle, then switching to link to use a bow to shoot the...cat? Pretty neat

The inverted song of time makes the 3 day cycle a non issue.
Realizing npcs do different things at different times during those 72 hours adds a lot to the complexity of the game IMO.

This is honestly my only issue with MM. It makes the finale extremely easy.

The only other thing that I think is kind of dumb in the game is the stupid aliens at the milk farm
