Raleigh, NC or Nashville, TN. Each rated in the top 15 places to live in the USA and are affordable. Each have a lot going for them too. If I stay in the states one of them will be my next destination. Reno, Carson, or anywhere around Lake Tahoe aren't on the list.
It depends on what you are looking for. The Tahoe area would be great for peace and tranquility probably but I am looking for areas with a lot going on and opportunities.

NOLA is cheap. All of Louisiana is. People don't realize how good they have it as far as the cost of living in LA. Now the quality of life is questionable and that's where spending money to be in a more vibrant area is worth it.

I was being relatively comparative. Mostly comparing to BR since New Orleans job salaries aren't much higher then BR
But I've had a blast living here so far. Can walk 1/2 a block to like 10 bars, grocery store, play golf, etc. Far better then BR but that's not saying much

Yea I will miss the "walkability" of my current location. Half a block to the beach and within 1 mile either direction of me I have the Hermosa Beach Pier or the Manhattan Beach Pier. Each have a ton of bars and restaurants. Can't beat it but it's just expensive as hell. Real Estate here is more per sq ft than Beverly Hills.

NOLA may be cheap to you but to the rest of us peasants it's ridiculous these days

Yea it's all relative I guess.

It's the land. I worked in mortgage sales and everytime I looked at the HUD, it was the size of the lot. The house itself appraised for "close" to what it appraise for here, but the land....damn. It's unreal there. A 250k house here would be valued at upper 100's of thousands there.

NOLA isn't cheap but BR is cheap.
NOLA is a fckking shthole. I hate everything about that city. It could be awesome but a certain group of ppl hold it back. I consulted on some pump and turbine stations earlier this year. Had an awesome office with the best view overlooking the Superdome. But fckk that, fkck helping that city because most of them want to keep it down by their selfishness.

Well yea. People spend a million dollars to buy a tear down here but to be fair the finishes on some of the houses here are ridiculous and absolutely contribute to the value.
