He clowned the hell out of guys asking him that, said you don't need one for a streaming PC. He even laughed at the ones that said to put his old GPU in there.

I take it as a separate streaming box for encoding.

Back in the day it was almost a must to have a separate box for encoding because CPU power was at a premium.

BINGO

Actually wanted to do that myself, but a year or two ago, screen tearing and the entire process in general was too overwhelming for me. I imagine the process is still tedious, but considering thats his profession and he is paid pretty well for it, I guess its worth it for him.

It helps out big time. I used an 8320 for this back in the early days.

It is very simple and imo easier to maintain. Just prepare for an even warmer room.

So you can push out a better product at a lower bitrate, right? Does that mean that more people can see you in better quality? Or does the gaming machine just run better?

Most streamers nowadays lay the encoding off on the GPU. Most of them have higher end video cards in their streaming PCs for this reason.

He also has no capture card, which I find interesting since that's pretty vital in a streaming pc

You can run your games at higher quality and higher framerates which makes the viewing experience better. You still want to keep the bitrate high because that determines the overall quality that the viewer will receive (in a nutshell)

So why was he excited about running at lower bitrates or speeds in OBS?

You can crank the CPU preset down on the streaming PC because that'll give you better quality (the faster, fast, slow, slower presets, the slower the better quality) since you're not using the CPU for anything except encoding the stream.

As for the bitrate, idk why he's happy to lower it. All it does is hurt the quality

Yea apparently there is no need for a GPU on the streaming PC at all. According to the professional streamer anyway
