If the WiiU and Switch launches are any indication, a good chunk of the early lineup will be either Switch 1 conversions or dual releases on Switch 1 and Switch 2.
They did this for numerous Zelda titles when both of those systems launched as well as going into the WiiU releases to be ported over to the switch to bolster the lineup for quite a while.

Super Mario Odyssey came out in 2017, so we are certainly due for a new mainline Mario title very soon. It would also help make the Switch 2 a huge plash on arrival.
Metroid Prime 4 as a dual release (Switch 1 and Switch 2) would follow their strategy the past few release cycles.
Only problem is, as awesome as Metroid is and as devoted the fanbase is, it's never been the same stratosphere as many of their other IPs, which is why they have neglected it so badly. Maybe using it as a launch title would finally get it some extra publicity and fans it deserves.

Super Mario Wonder just came out in the past year or two

That's true and I had forgotten about that. Although I get the feeling the work on the next 3D Mario game has been going on in parallel.

While I had a lot of fun with Wonder, it doesn't feel like the same category as Odyssey. Obviously, one is 3D and the other 2D, but Wonder just felt like such a small game compared to Odyssey.
I have really enjoyed BOTW and TOTK, but if they can build on the fun that was Odyssey, that would probably be the game I look forward to the most.

I’m pointing out it was a mainline Mario game and not a spinoff like Princess Peach or Toad Treasure Tracker.
They could easily be working on a new 3D Mario game, especially in the wake of the movie’s success, but it isn’t like they have had their thumbs up their asses since Odyssey came out.

Mario Maker 2 has also been released since Odyssey. That's probably considered a "spinoff" but it doesn't feel like one to me.

They're definitely going to release a Smash Bros game. I guess the only question is if it's released at launch or within the first couple years after launch.

I just don’t know how you can top Ultimate. Might as well just do Super Smash Bros Ultimate Deluxe and keep adding characters.
Will definitely be a hard act to follow, and I doubt they'll be able to come close to how awesome Ultimate was. Hard to beat bringing in every character from every previous game.
