Starting my first playthrough of Witcher 3 - Complete Edition

I bought this a while back but I read how enthralling it could be. Now the semester is over, work has slowed down and I'm going to jump in tonight.
Is not playing 1 or 2 going to hurt me in terms of lore, etc.?
I've read that Death March forces you to use all of your resources. Is this something I could do on my first playthrough, or is it more for replays?

Don't play Death March if you're not at least familiar with the controls.

Wait till ng+ for death march.
Death march isnt that tough on ng+ and with an idea of what oils and spells damage what monsters the best.
Plus alchemy becomes hella OP

Thanks fellas.
Can I change to DM once I’m into the game, or does that choice stick with that save file?

Enjoy. It's a helluva game. I finally got around to completing the main story a couple weeks ago. I've had the game since launch
Just started in on Heart of Stone. Really liking it so far.

I had never even heard of the Witcher series until I played W3.
There is a bunch of references to old lore and stuff but nothing that stops you from fully enjoying and understanding everything that's going on.
Harder difficulties are much harder at the start of the game, however as the game goes on it gets easy, no matter which difficulty you play on. The game gets much easier as you gear up and get skills and items and stuff, no matter which difficulty.
Might as well start on a higher difficulty, you can always bump it down if it gets annoying (although doing that means you can't get the achievements).
Def. do not play on the easier difficulties though. The game is pretty easy, even on the hard difficulties (except at the beginning)
You can adjust the difficulty at any time, up or down. However doing so makes it so you can't get the trophy or achievements related to difficulties and stuff.
If you want the trophy you have to complete the game on a single save without adjusting the difficulty.

I’ve seen in several threads that “alchemy becomes OP.” Is this by some combination on the skill tree? I basically played Skyrim using online guides whereas I tried to figure out W3 on my own. Just wondering what types of skills specifically in alchemy get you there?

been a while since i played, but i loved alchemy in witcher 2 so thats what i went with in the witcher 3. i remember having unlimited poisons on my weapons in the tree, and also having it so i would be able to drink 3 decoctions at the same time without taking damage from the toxicity. it was really damn strong, but i felt like i missed out on a lot of easy mode by not upgrading my signs. i eventually went back and did the sign upgrades but alchemy will always be my favorite build, it made me feel like the books talk about, preparing ur poisons to go battle a monster.
there were even some types of enemies u could take a decoction to basically be immune to their most dangerous attacks

As far as I know, each decoction is 70 tox and your base is 100. In W3 can you get to the point of using up to 3?
Posted on 12/16/17 at 8:22 pm to CoachKlein
yeah, there are a lot of things in that tree that up ur max toxicity and shite like that

I just started it for the first time as well. I am around level 14. I'm really enjoying it.

its constantly me posting "alchemy becomes OP" and its true
double , even triple, decoctions. then put yourself just over the toxicity line every time.
two or three decoctions, oils, poisons... you end up stacking so many buffs on yourself you just do stupid damage.
there is a critical strike multiplier somewhere in the alch tree that just makes every LA you do absurd.

I kept falling off of the wall while I was racing the kid down to the courtyard for training.
Got frustrated and went back to GTA V.
Maybe later I'll get into W3.

I’ve had Witcher 3 for a long time and maybe put 6 hours in it before I got destiny. Witcher is so damn immersive that I really felt like I couldn’t invest the time it needed to fully enjoy it.
