Saw the GOTY edition with all the add-ons on sale for 10 bucks so I scooped it up. I just got to the hinterlands and OMG this game is huge for a mostly single-player game.

Any tips the board can give?

Play Dragon Age: Origins instead.

Get the hell out of the Hinterlands ASAP. Don't stick around and try to complete all the quests there.

Pretty big game. I wouldn’t get too mired in the hinterlands content early on as you really only get significant experience from the campaign for level-ups. I ran around being a completionist in the hinterlands, and I don’t regret it, but the experience/loot payoff is pretty low.

Don't listen to the haters. Inqusition is a great game.

The first area is a bit of a tutorial. You can go back. You don't need to clear the whole area before moving on with the story.

I cleared 98% of it but that is how I tend to play games. Some people got burned out playing 30 hours in the first area.

Pro Tip - Some fights you can't win. No matter how hard you try, there are some fights you need to level up to win.

I got tired of the combat. I played as whatever the call the staff/magic class on that game and just remember spamming the same 2-3 things the entire time.

I think it is the arcane warrior build that is massively overpowered.

Nice, so it feels like DA:O in that regards. I'll never forget my first playthrough of origins when I just got mauled until I started getting a hang of tactics. Especially playing as a squishy rogue.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

It isn't as good as Origins (which is damned hard to do), but you'll want to play through Origins and DA2 (even though DA2 had poor map design because it was rushed, it had just as good if not better characters than Origins). The events of 2 play WAY more into Inquisition than the events from DA:O

For DA:I, do the minimum for the Hinterlands. A lot of the flack for the game is how long that area drags on, but the rest of the game is really solid. It isn't some crap game like some people will say, it just isn't "as good" as DA:O (which is like saying The Godfather is a poor movie because it isn't as good as The Godfather 2).

Exactly. They do a bad job of pushing you in the direction of the main quest. I had plenty of fun doing everything in the Hinterlands. I can understand plenty of people being bored and nothing really screams at you to progress the story but once you do, the main quests are great.
