I’m not understanding what you’re saying. DLSS still hasn’t been added to Jedi Survivor. DLSS clearly wasn’t going to be allowed in Starfield except that people clocked it early and spent the last couple of months shitting in AMD for it. If they reverse course, great. But it’s because they didn’t want “AMD Sponsored Title” to become a liability, not because of any benevolent reason

Support open companies.

Nothing wrong with that either, better than waiting years like Gsync because you're a shite company and stubborn when you lose.

Define "open company".

I'm not sure where to start

DLSS, FSR, and XeSS are all "upscaling" (rendering at a lower resolution and displaying a higher resolution to improve FPS while maintaining visual quality) techniques. DLSS is designed by Nvidia and can only be used by Nvidia hardware. FSR is designed by AMD and Xess is designed by Intel. Both of the latter are "open" and can be used by hardware from any company.

DLSS is universally considered to be the best of the three, by a fair bit, especially for target rendering below 4k. XeSS is generally considered a bit better than FSR, but they are tit for tat.

Adding any upscaling tech requires a bit of work by the devs, but once you've included one, including any others is trivial. Further, in UE5, it's basically a tick box for each one.

The conflict we are discussing is that, as of late, AMD has begun "sponsoring" games and as part of that sponsorship requiring those games to only include FSR. Jedi Survivor was the first AAA game that fell victim to this and really pissed people off. When it was announced that Starfield was sponsored by AMD, media outlets immediately began asking both Bethesda and AMD whether DLSS and XeSS would be included. Both ignored all questions for months, leading to the obvious conclusion that those technologies were intentionally excluded. Recently when pre-download opened up for Starfield, people combed the files and saw that only FSR was included, with both DLSS and XeSS being excluded. People exploded.

AMD now appears to be backing off of that position, but only time will tell.

For a bit of visual context, this is what I said about my FSR experience in Jedi Survivor, followed by an example screenshot I took:

quote:

Just finished Jedi: Survivor, and I’ve gotta say, I now really understand the HWU comparison of native/DLSS/FSR. Prior to this, I had never used FSR because there was no reason to use it over DLSS, which I had access to. With J:S being an AMD sponsored game, I was limited to FSR, and honestly, I just wasn’t particularly impressed. It’s fine. The performance gain is worth using over native. But it was noticeably worse than any recent implementation of DLSS 2.x. Some areas looked really great, but sizzling and ghosting were downright immersion breaking at certain points, and I say that as someone who always uses DLSS Quality over native. I’m pulling for AMD to continue closing the gap, but FSR still has a ways to go before it’s a true challenge to DLSS.

quote:

I was playing at 1440x3440, and yeah, kinda meh. Again, probably worth the degradation on average for the performance boost, but definitely more of a compromise than DLSS. Sizzling is really hard to catch in a screenshot, but ghosting was so bad on one elevator that I felt compelled to take one:

I bet everyone that's preordered in this thread has at least the premium edition

we're not waiting til the 5th to play

Only reason I pre-ordered the normal edition is that I'll be out at the beach for a Labor Day vacation. Best believe I'll be checking into this thread often while I'm gone.

I did Carson's XBL Ultimate trick last year so I have Game Pass through like Nov 2027, not a chance I'm buying any game on that regardless of early release.

speaking of Nvidia and in case anyone missed it, game ready driver update is available for Starfield.

Ryzen 7: 5800
Radeon RX 6600M

you'll be able to run the game, but I don't know about your performance. your specs are between the minimum and recommended system requirements.

maybe on par with the X.

I just looked up your display and I wouldn't try to run it at 4k if you're looking for performance. I'd rather drop res and boost FPS, but that's just me

You're a lifesaver. I was debating buying an Xbox... Sounds like it would be better to save my money for eventually getting a gaming PC

While their software might be open source, I have a hard time agreeing that they are an “open company” when they pay game devs to exclude other technologies, including other open source/hardware neutral technologies like XeSS.

I should be fine with a Ryzen 9 5900x and 3060 TI right?

Your limiting factor is obviously the GPU. I would say good at 1080, ok at 1440 if you are willing to lower settings, probably not ok at 4k.

This may be the first game that I can actually test my 3080ti out on.
