88 on open critic and 86 on metacritic.

As an Xcom lover, I’ve been very excited about this for a long time

Played 2 missions. Definitely feels like Xcom.

I think the the big difference is Xcom could be a very quiet game. Going through and stealthing as deep into a large level as possible. This feels way more action forward and set piece oriented.

Great music so far.

I can tell even early im going to dig the story. That little dig at the accountant chick is the butcher and the responses around that is on fricking point.

Also, I like the little base

I am dog shite at any game that requires strategy, but I am so desperate for a good Star Wars game.

Luckily this isn’t a strategy game, it’s a tactics game.

I had seen a review this game favors being more decisive than XCom which rewarded caution.

That became very apparent in my third mission where enemies were going to continue to spawn until I did the objective. There’s no camping out waiting for the enemies to position themselves in a perfect funnel.

This does remind me very much of Killteam too with some of the AP economy shenanigans

Holy shite astromech droids are OP

Not being sarcastic or an a-hole when I ask this, but what’s the difference?

Looks turn-based to me?

This game genre is “turn based tactics”

You are fundamentally doing the same stuff you are doing in a shooter, but in a much different fashion.

Instead of controlling one guy, you control a group. Instead of being real time, you are turn based. Your characters and your opponents have extreme abilities that are much deadlier.

So you’re fundamentally orchestrating a firefight. Gears Tactics is a great example here because you can see the 1:1 comparison between what your doing in Gears of War vs Gears tactics. You’re still doing the same thing, but tactics games are much more involved

Strategy games tend to be more high level and focus on using resource management to win a goal. You might play an entire village, nation, or planet. You organize, you get the gold and oil to purchase troops and you build your walls and arrow towers and then you send your troops to attack the other troops. And then when you do, you have much more basic combat interactions than tactical shooters.

How does this look compared to games like XCOM EW and XCOM 2 or is it closer to Jagged Alliance?

Seen some of the optimization issues but its UE4 and will take some time to patch it out.
