I know this game's old but I'm getting some nostalgia for KOTOR, and rather than play it again, I was thinking of giving SWTOR a shot. I'm really just looking for a decent Star Wars rpg and story. I don't care about min/maxing my character stats, getting the best gear, or end game content. In fact, I'd mostly like to ignore the MMO-ness of it and play it somewhat solo.

Any opinions or advice?

I've thoroughly enjoyed it when i've played it. Its by no means perfect, but its definitely fun and scratches some good star wars itches for sure.

I used to play it for just the reasons you want to. Didn't care about end game, I just wanted to go through the different stories of each character. It's well worth it just for that if you need a star wars itch scratched.

That and you can play a Sith Inquisitor and force lightning the shite out of errrrrthing!

Awesome. Sounds like it might be worth checking out based on both of y'all's opinions.

Any feelings on which class has the best story? Just reading on my own, I've heard the Imperial Agent is fun, but I'm kind of feeling like being a good guy at the moment.

It became a decent MMO.

Community is a little dead but LOTS of solo content if first starting out.

8 different stories. It WILL scratch a star wars itch. There is a hidden deal on amazon (you have to use the EXACT name to find it, google best sub methods to find it, its 90 days sub for $40) that will give you enough time to play all 8. You can be a good guy in any story. You can SOLO all stories. The group required stuff, they now give you a
"story" mode, and they give you a badass droid to do them. Agent is the leader on the best story list, but it will vary by person. Join a guild, you get xp and money gain bonuses, and no, you dont have to interact with them.

Look, if you just go into it for the story plots and a little bit of Star Wars geekdom it ain't bad. It could have been so much more but that is a story that has been beaten to death.

Play it for a bit and have fun. I think it's free these days so no worries. If you're having a good time throw them a few bucks. If not, no worries.

I'd wait until the new expansion hits.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I played it a bit last night as a Jedi Guardian. It's fun so far, though it definitely feels like a WOW mod.

"Kill 15 bad guys to complete this quest. Oh? You did that? Now go into that cave and kill 15 more slightly more powerful versions of that same bad guy."

I guess that's expected, though.

I really enjoy the world design so far and the music is awesome, of course. It really gives me the same feeling of playing a legit KOTOR game. I'm glad they make accommodations for solo players. It seems they know this is the closest thing we have to a KOTOR 3.

I'm going free to play at the moment because my opportunities to play video games are sporadic. I don't want to subscribe and then go 2 or 3 weeks without touching it.

That's the smart move. You can play all eight story arcs up to lvl 50 on F2P. By that time you should have scratched your Star Wars itch rather well and decided if you want to play the expansions (which are pretty good too). Oh, and you only have to subscribe one month to unlock the expansions. Then cancel if you want and you can continue to play them. There are other restrictions on F2P though, so make sure you read up if you end up going that route.
