Ubisoft may be betting it all

quote:

Ubisoft's Star Wars game is reportedly in development under the codename Project Helix. Julian Gerighty, the director on The Division and The Division 2, is the creative director.

According to Kotaku, Ubisoft's Star Wars game will feature "some form of interplanetary space travel" and that "hopes are high internally" that it could become Ubisoft's first non-Assassin's Creed hit game in a while. The same sources said a release during the current fiscal year is "probably too ambitious" and that it will actually launch in the following fiscal year (April 1, 2024 - March 31, 2025).

Would probably be smart to wait a bit and let people get a little bored of Survivor...or, do you strike while it's hot?

Please, just be anywhere close to as good as KOTOR was.

I still don’t know why they don’t just update KOTOR like they have done for so many other games, and release it on the current platforms. They would make a killing.

I wish I'd given Galaxies a shot at the time but WoW sucked me in for the entire back half of the 2000s

That window is big. Could be a little under 2 years from now. I don't see the desire of wanting a game like this diminishing in the next....5 years.

They've been developing it since 2021 apparently, would be awesome to have at least 2 great SW game franchises putting out content

Galaxies was so rad

It was basically a cross between WoW and No Man's Sky in the SW universe.

Ya, I wanted to play Galaxies when it came out, but was still way into Ultima Online.

This was back when all player types were thrown together like the wild west. So cold blooded killers thrown in with pacifist PvE roleplayers.

People hated being murdered but in hindsight, the danger made for a better experience. Oddly, even knowing that now as a non PKer/PvPer, I'd probably still pick the "safe" game. It's a inescapable psychological loop.

Want game to bring back old school UO.
Don't want to play because games made like that don't draw PvEers and I don't want to get ruthlessly mercked by myself.

Loved UO back in the day. Had a friend that ended up getting a divorce over that game.

I'm not so sure about that. I played WoW on a PvP server (Magtheridon) at first and it was miserable. Trying to kill 20 boars and get ganked by some Troll Rogue 18 times in a row did not make for a positive first impression.

I shortly left for a PvE server and never looked back.

I get it. But WoW had no stakes. I played it a good bit. Like I said, even though I think I like the danger better, it's only in theory in a way. Because if you gave me $50 I'll choose the safe WoW game, and be unfulfilled. It's likely that UO is just a nostalgia trap too.

The only game where I logged into the game just to travel to an inn to play chess against another player.

They could bring it back with some sort of balance mechanic, like a bounty system for example (players with kill counts x% above the average, or those with win-loss ratios at a certain percentage, or those who attack players n-levels lower than they are, etc) which would make it increasingly difficult for any character on their account to do NPC transactions, maybe place a large bounty on their heads for killing them, make experience loss greater, raise the chances of losing gear, etc.
