I've forgotten more about game dev and the industry than you will ever know. As I've said in the past, you're pretty well informed on other discussions on TD. When it comes to anything Xbox, though, nothing you say is based in reality

95% of my time is spent on PC bud. I just support businesses that are competent and well-run. Nintendo, Sony, Steam - all are amazing and bring different competencies to the table. Microsoft is easy to pick on because basically every decision they make is the wrong one, yet their fans grasp at straws and conjure these ridiculous fantasies in a desperate attempt to cope. Prime trolling material

Right?
The majority of this board was 360 back in the gap…for obvious reasons. It was great and the ps3 was trash.
I don’t know what happened in those business meeting at Microsoft regarding the next gen after the 360 but all those idiots should be gone.
A serious fall and one that I don’t think anybody really wanted. The one was so fricking disappointing and they never recovered.
Where on the opposite end…Sony fricking killed it with the ps4…not so much because of the hardware but because the games were the best you were going to get for consoles at that time.
This is all fact if the blinders could come off.

360 is in contention for best console ever (along with PS2). Best controller of all time, insane lineup of games, great all around. PS3 is in contention for worst. Trash, overpriced system. MS had a considerable lead going into the One generation

Got complacent. Generally whoever is on top will get comfortable and start doing some goofy shite while whoever is on the bottom will make some bolder, more consumer friendly decisions. This allows them to gain some momentum and turn the tide if things go as they hope. The 2 will generally seesaw back and forth.
Unfortunately, MS has rode the seesaw down to the earth's core as of late. Not sure there's any coming back

Even with the RROD…nobody really cared. Would just go buy another one or wrap that bitch in a towel. I think I owned 3 of the 360’s lol I did my part.
He can call us whatever he wants but there is no denying he is what he despises.

Man...the fricking towel
I was able to use it 3 times before it just died for good and I had to have it replaced
Then my replacement got RROD'd a week before GTA V released. I was a freshman or sophomore at LSU with no money and just happened to find an amazing deal on Craigslist for a barely used 360 (one of the new black ones) a day before GTAV released.
Great times

I feel like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are equally shitty this generation in different ways.

What did they expect for Rebirth? It's PS5 only and still sold over 2 million copies as of 04/15.

It was a better system but I don't think this is true. In fact the PS3 eventually outsold the 360.

I was talking about momentum in the US, but read your article and did some more digging.
It ended up being closer than I expected
360 - 85.73M
PS3 - 87.4M
360 by region
North America - 46.14M
Europe - 25.08M
Japan - 1.66M
Rest of World - 12.85M
PS3 by region
North America - 29.92M
Europe - 30.87M
Japan - 10.47M
Rest of World - 16.14M
PS3 was able to gain ground later in the lifespan once the prices dropped and they got more games. 360 had all the exclusives early on and absolutely dominated in the US.

There has never been a report of a Square game "exceeding sales expectations" or "overperforming." They bitch and cry about every single game underselling. Their projections are retarded

Do they factor into those numbers how many people bought multiple 360s?
Posted on 5/16/24 at 8:23 pm to Carson123987
Remake sold roughly 3.5 million copies its first weekend but that was because it was on PS4 and also like a month into Covid when everyone was stuck at home. FF16 is still the #3 best selling PS5 game (only behind Elden Ring and Spiderman 2).

If this is accurate (I don't usually follow PlayStation sales), this is a bad sign for Sony. Square has already said they aren't profiting with these sales numbers, so they're out, but this is even worse for Sony because it highlights their shallow exclusives pool. If Square is out, Sony is going to have to revamp their entire gaming business model.
