On 2nd playthrough on NG+
I'm at Lumiere after you take the train from the snowy area in the monolith
The black and white flash back with a mother teaching her son to play piano pops up....Sciel asks Verso if he's okay. He says he's fine and to keep moving.
I didn't realize the faceless kid was Verso on the first playthrough. Now I do and it hits so much harder now. Most all of the Foreshadowing does....

Only issue I have with this game is the inconsistency of the parries/dodges.
I know for a fricking fact I'm hitting some of these perfectly, but I'm still taking lethal damage.

From my understanding the timings get a bit tighter in NG+ only on expert mode.
And they were already a bit tighter on expert than normal in regular new game. So if you played on normal you might need to adjust a bit. You’ll get it
The worst I had with it was likely one of the easiest fights in the game lol. Against Alicia her mirror move required inputs so fast took me a bit
I’ll also suggest use Audio ques they’re very very helpful
Also if its your first time on expert you should dodge a lot more. You take way way way more damage

I only need to ascend the Gestral tower to complete all the achievements for 100%.
The Verso ending actually is emotionally impactful and not in some bullshite cheap way. Incredible writing.
Hoping that the triple A studios actually step their game up after being showed up by low budget new studio, but I’m not holding my breath.

Ive seen people make moral argument for Maelles ending. I just dont see how it doesnt make her the villain in anyway

Did they lower the max burn stack to 100 in the patch too?
Lammmeeeeee
Phoenix void damage Maelle builds weep
You could easily build up like 250 or more before

I’m waiting to do Maelle’s ending, but making the choice to stay in the canvas is ultimately dumb because not only does it actively kill her, but Renoir will inevitably come back and erase the canvas at some point, so it’s just delaying the inevitable at the expense of forcing verso’s remaining soul to continue the fantasy against his will and continuing to make her family worry and grieve.

I was able to do them both at once before they patched out that ability in one run.
It just seems extremely selfish to me on her part. Like its peak selfishness because i mean lets be real her life sucks bad outside of the canvas

You can't do them both in one run anymore? I did Verso first, because I thought I'd prefer the Maelle ending, then did Maelle's ending, then went back and did Verso's ending again because I'm weird and want to "keep the best ending."
I agree with yall that Maelle's ending makes her the villain.

The more I think on it I think Verso is one of the best characters EVER written.
The balls to kill off the main marketed character with a stranger who clearly is withholding knowledge but becomes literally one of the best characters in fiction to explore grief
He isnt a hero. Morally he may not even be a good person, we dont even know if or how much he is acting of his own will. But he is very very human

There is a reading of the game where verso is the villain. It just is simply outright wrong imo. He is NOT very morally good person, and does a bunch of really shitty things. The worst is likely allowing gustsave to die simply to ensure Maelles resolve would steel enough to see it through.
This reading entirely disregards his entire perspective, conflicted somewhat cloud from ff7 nature of who he even is, and a massive amount of postive traits and good actions he displays the entire game.
Verso deserved to rest and the fantasy had to end
Also from my anecdotal experience people who hold communist or maybe more simply utilitarian mindsets simp for maelle and it is easy to get why. I oppose it outright on those grounds,

No one in the canvas is real, so this is meaningless imo.

Thats the Maelle cults contention. They argue theyre sentient beings with no less right to life than anyone else. Blah blah liberal crap, as I said its easy to see why they like her
There is no way renoire wouldve just left her in there to become like his wife either. They were all dead. either that day or one soon

Yep. It’s the equivalent of saying you killed Harry Potter because you set his book on fire. Maelle’s ending proves no one in the canvas is real. She brings Gustave and Sophie back from the dead like it’s nothing and forces the painted version of Verso to play a concert for everyone. She loses herself in the fantasy world, just like her mother did before her.

I mean, it's a better world for her than actual reality.
I actually like the Maelle ending. If I were her I'd much rather stay in the painted world. You have control and your life is infinitely better.
Who cares if it's actual reality or not. We as humans try to escape our reality all the time via drugs and alcohol. If any one of us could do it via painting a "virtual reality", we would.

Yes. You just described perfectly whats wrong with it imo. It is perfect for Maelle and no one else and nothing else. It only does immense harm to everyone else but her life is so awful in the real world she is willing to condone that
Posted on 5/19/25 at 9:08 pm to td01241
Her father is the selfish one in my opinion. He's wanting Maelle to go back to her shitty life to appease him.
The feelings of the individuals inside the canvas are irrelevant to me. They aren't real.
Maybe I'm influenced by my own life where I've put everyone else first so I side with a character that finally puts themselves first.
