Son definitely want Mario Odyssey to go with the switch. I want Zelda so I'll get that for him . Besides the games and the console is there anything else I should get to go with it? Don't really know much about the system other than you can make it portable and it has a controller. Things like[ controller chargers/docks? etc. What are the must haves?

If he's going to be taking it out of the house, I'd get a carrying case of some sort.

A second controller is nice. I'd probably get a pro controller, so he has the option of playing games with the pro as well as using the pro for when two people want to play and not use the little controllers.

Just get a separate ac adapter to charge in handheld mode so you don’t have to get the one out of the dock and bring it with you

That’s The only must accessory. Some will say the pro controller and if you have bigger hands, I would agree

Thanks for this thread. We got one for my daughter for Christmas and needed to know what other things we needed.

Also, how heavily is Nintendo investing into this thing? Was at Target the other day and they hardly had any games for it for sale. Should more games be released as Christmas approaches? We've gotten her Splattoon and plan on getting the new Mario game.

Pro Controller and case for handheld mode. I got mine on amazon.

I just use the cord that comes with the pro controller. I add an Ipad brick onto the USB.

All you need is a USB C cord and a 2.1 cellphone power adaptor. Much cheaper.

Nintendo is going hard on it. It keeps breaking sales records and is on pace to outsell the entire life-cycle of the WiiU in the first year. It's only 7 months old which is why you see a small selection of physical games. It has over 200 games in the online store, lots of indies and whatnot but still, there are some gems in that lot.

Yep. This isn't supposed to be played handheld (non plugged in) for six hours or anything. I guess that does depend on the game you are playing (stardew valley can play for a long time vs Mario).

Thanks for the info. After watching a YouTube of the new Mario game, daughter may never get to play the thing.

Get a carrying case with storage for game cartridges
Get a pro controller
Get a tempured glass screen protector

The pro controller is great because 1: its one of the best controllers for any console and 2: when he plays multilayer someone else can use the joycons

Extremely. They keep denying it, but I'd bet within the next 3-4 years they stop making DS exclusives.

I travel all the time. A USB C to a 22,000Mah Powerbank does the trick on long flights

You have a suggestion or is the $10 one from Walmart good?

A key thing is would you want your son carrying around physical cards (the games) or would you want to do one large SD card which you can download from the shop?

I got a 128 Gig SD card for my download games. Makes things much cleaner if he is taking it places.

same principle...something so you don't have to take the charger out of the dock.

What is the Walmart one? I normally go with Anker, but I just like their build quality. Going that cheap for that much power could be a stretch.

ETA: quick search and this is a good power/cost ratio. Ravpower is another well known brand. LINK
