why does skyrim for pc require steam? it is a single player offline game, what could possibly be the benefit of steam being required to play this game?

i kinda want to get it(skyrim) since my laptop will run it, but the whole steam thing kinda irks me for an offline game.

So steam can harvest your cookies for data to sell to a third party for profit.

Steam is the distributor for the game.

the game is a Steamworks title, so the only version is the Steam version.

I assume it's because game developers are no longer required to sell a polished product at launch anymore. The ability to make quick updates allows faster releases and thus quicker money.

If you buy a retail copy it's going to ask you to activate it via Steam. Honestly, I think Steam is a good idea for Skyrim. You get instant access to DLC when it comes out.

After a while, I'm certain you'll be hard pressed to find a PC game that doesn't run through Steam.

Always remember, if you install anything "free" on your computer...you aren't a consumer, you are being harvested for data

Kind of like Facebook. Marketing companies pay big bucks for browsing history of their potential clients

steam acts as the DRM

it's better than a lot of alternatives.
