No one would have any known about this happening. By giving in they gave life to the argument. If they would have not responded none of this would have had any traction. Now they've given in and alienated the other more populated section of their fans.

Game with big swinging dicks

This is already a game, it's immensely popular and girls love playing it as much as guys. It's called Mount Your Friends and no one is complaining about how it's offensive to men. Big floppy dicks is what makes it hilarious.

The problem I have is that it becomes really easy to dismiss any protest or movement as just as bunch of SJW jackoffs

In this particular context, the only individuals pushing for such "change" are the SJW jackoffs.

It's this small, radicalized minority that is insistent on shaping the industry in their own personalized view, and destroying the current state of the industry which has grown and developed organically over the last 20+ years.

Tell me, if we make Link a girl, what does that do for feminism? Does it really progress any cause, or does it just satisfy the desires of an internet minority with a political agenda? Nintendo tried to please them by gracing them with Linkle, but of course they scoffed at her overt femininity - "Linkle only works to reinforce the notion of "male as default".

And that's the problem - they're never satisfied. So, let's say Nintendo makes Link a girl - this same group will complain that she's not "strong" enough, that she's not a lesbian, or that she conforms to standard binary gender stereotypes.

Is this the type of future we want in the gaming community? Loading up a Zelda game to play as Link, a 300 pound androgynous genderqueer lesbian with short pink hair and gender neutral garbs? All in the name of "equality"?

I guess I just see it as an interesting push and pull. I think the monolith of the status quo can stand up to a bit of shaking here and there without really endangering much of anything.

To act like this is changing the face of the gaming industry is a bit much. On top of that, someone earlier talked about how the gaming audience is dominated by males... that's sort of the point.

In all honesty, I don't have much of an investment one way or the other because I'm not that into gaming. I do, though, know that there is a ridiculously misogynistic element in gaming with a bunch of neckbeard virgins sitting around making fun of "fat lesbians" who no man would touch. Oh the irony.

I don't have an issue with lesbians - I do, as revealed fairly clearly in my previous post, have an issue when iconic, legendary characters are in jeopardy of being altered simply to appease a small, vocal minority under the pretense of equality and inclusiveness.

I also edited my post to say that it's only a certain element that's misogynistic in gaming. I also know lots of gamers that are crazily inclusive and "progressive" or whatever...

And I do agree that there are elements that will never be happy regardless of how much you cater to them (see the reference to them making a feminized Link and that being decried as too stereotypical).

All that being said, I think that the gaming world could definitely be a lot friendlier ecosystem for females than it currently is... and it might help our society as a whole if it were to become that way, judging from the epidemic of mid-20s male gamers who can't get out of their parents' basements.

The point that is seemingly lost on people who support this stuff, like you, is that you are unable to comprehend the fact that you can simply just not support the product.

If it isn't liked, it'll fail and things will change. The SJWs in the OP, and possibly you, are unable to stand that.

Y'all would much rather force what you want on everyone else.

That is the aspect of this I cannot stand.

I mean, not to belabor the obvious... but you can point to repeated social justice movements through the past (racial, gender, etc..) and make that free market argument... and those institutions which are now anathema would still exist if a small group of committed people hadn't fought against the majority to make them happen. Market forces alone wouldn't have done it (slavery, women's suffrage, desegregation, etc..). And I'm not trying to equate character depiction in gaming with those movements... but the point still stands.

Edit: and to add... part of the invisible hand of the free market depends upon the consumer base making informed choices. People rabble rousing around certain issues are PART of a free market. The company must then make a decision whether those rabble rousers will have a negative enough effect on their bottom dollar to warrant a change in the way they do business.

And I don't disagree with that notion - I disagree with the methodology that's being employed by particular groups in an attempt to achieve that idealized environment.

Whether it's the censorship of content in games (OP being an example), or crafting a movement to lobby Nintendo to massively overhaul an iconic video game character, these actions are all derived from the same specific group.

I am torn. I hate the whole social justice movement recently because when I see shite like Emory and their cry for a "safe place" I want to pull my hair out. At the same time I when I visit the PT board and often other TD boards I can't help but die a little inside as well because there are quite a few legitimate bigots. I guess I am somewhere in the middle.

Well, let's find out.

Do you support the removal of the Tracer pose in the OP due to the apparent fact that it was too offensive?

Do you think Link should become a girl in all future Zelda titles?

Does it enrage you that this black character from Uncharted 4 is voiced by a white woman, not a black woman?

Do you have an immediate negative reaction to this new character in Tekken 7, wishing that she won't be playable in Western releases of the game?

I think if you try and answer those questions honestly, you'll quickly find out what side you're on.

You somehow think that because social media easily finds the worst of the worst cases that it is all bad. Take a break from the PT board, which I know you frequent.

ETA:

As I mentioned there is shite on both sides. Because you are on on side if is obviously difficult for you to see any other side. That is not to say that these examples are not good evidence of one side being unfair.

I just don't understand what more both sides can fricking want in this day and age. It will never be completely balanced between both sides, but it's about as close as it will ever get. The way things are heading though, it will be skewed more to the left.

Initially, I wasn't on any side. I frequented NeoGaf and was completely oblivious and apathetic to any of this.

Then Gamergate happened, started to pick up steam, and I watched as one side made every effort imaginable to control content and dictate terms to game developers. As the movement became more political, their outrage became more ridiculous, and the group gradually developed an increasingly enlarged sensitivity to completely neutral and non-inflammatory content.

I don't pretend to know what the truth was with Gamergate - but I think it's fairly obvious that the dichotomization of the industry that was engendered by that scandal is being continually maintained by only one of those sides.

Did you notice the other side of gamergate too? Both sides had their hands dirty and over a stupid topic too.
