Scouting in Recruiting in NCAA13

So I've still yet to figure out the reasoning behind the scouting. Sometimes it works out really well when you find a 69 overall who ends up in the mid 70s after you fully scout them. However, when you find someone who is already an 80 overall, what is the benefit in scouting them any if there is potential for them to decrease in overall score? I have yet to understand this because in a dynasty I found a Guard who I scouted up to an 83. After that I should have stopped because once I got to 100% he ended up only being a 78.
Would he have stayed an 83 had I stopped scouting him? Or does his real overall score come to fruition in training down the line or something?

You're misunderstanding what scouting does. It doesn't change a rating, it reveals it. If you think a player is an 83 at 0% scouted, and he ends up at 78 after being scouted, then when you signed him he would have been a 78 either way. If you don't scout the player who is 83 at 0%, and you sign him.. he may end up at 78.
It is supposed to add a dimension to recruiting, but it really just makes it a lot more complicated to find good players, so you have to make use of your scouting function throughout the season, even after you think you have your recruits picked out. I always sign all 25 and just cut the worst players because of this.

It also can be useful if you are building a smaller program. Lots of 3* players turn out to be gems with overall ratings in the 70s.
Overall, there is entirely too much in recruiting. I like the scouting part, but for fricks sake EA find a way to make it less time consuming. Although the CPU does a better job of recruiting this season then in past.

Agreed.
I literally stop playing dynasty because the recruiting is so time consuming. I wantto play the games, not spend 80% of my time recruiting.

I really enjoy the recruiting. I wish the computer were better at it though, if you stage your recruiting based off of interest, you can sign 25 4 and 5 star players over the course of a season and, if you do your promises right, you can drop anyone you don't need.
My money trick is I create a player that I want in a position of need. I give them whatever stats I want, whether it be normal, or overpowered, and make their home city the same as my team. Then I change their position to punter or kicker. They end up being a 1* with little to no interest from other teams. I recruit and sign them, and change their position to that which I needed when I get to position changes, and Boom something better than a 3* OLB. This works well in boosting a shitty program if you really need a better OL or DL, and just can't seem to get one.
Also why the hell are there never any good OLB's available?

If I can't find a good OLB in dynasty I go for a good sized SS with my desired ratings and convert him in the off-season.
It works well if you can't find a good OLB to fit your scheme depending on what kind of defense that you run.

Line backers are so 20th century, 4-2-5 wave of the future.

I recruit similarly. I like to recruit a lot of CB's and then convert the biggest ones into FS/SS and then take the FS/SS that I recruit and convert them into OLB's. For me, I try to get the most speed on the field possibly. Really helps me defend the pass on Heisman.

So you're saying that a players who's overall will show up as say 78 when you're recruiting him will turn into his real overall score of either a 70 for a bust or an 82 for a gem when the offseason comes?
Bc when you sign him if hes at 0%, his overall stays the same until you scout him.
And I've never noticed or checked again to see if a player I've ever signed that I didn't scout all the way changed when they actually got on the team.

If you never scout a player, and sign him at 78, in the preseason screen for the next year his real rating will be 70, or 82.. based off of your example.
If you want to test it, create a player, find out his true rating, and then don't scout him. When he gets to your team all of his stats will be what you set them to, whether you scout him or not.

I agree recruiting should be streamlined as much as possible in a fun way.
But there are modes for you to play the games alone.
And you can always CPU recruiting.
The point of dynasty mode is for those who want to play the role of head coach, which takes play off field mostly oddly enough....

As others have said, his actual rating doesn't show until you either:
1. Scout him
2. Wait till he enrolls.

It is rather time consuming, but adds a very real element where a kid shows up and surprises everyone or when you see a highly touted kid fall flat once they arrive to school.

Hey now! I didn't say I used that trick to make 99 overall players.... I use it to make a 70 something or low 80's player for my team if I failed to recruit that position the season before, and I've used it if there is a lack of some position available. I used OLB's as an example, because I have gone 4 seasons on my dynasty without a single 5 star OLB, or MLB, and only 2 or 3 4 star's per season. I play 3/4 defense and it's pretty difficult to get your linebackers for a 3/4 when there are mostly 3*'s and everyone is going after them. I enjoy it, so why do you care?

Yeah in my dynasty I switched from a 34 to a 43 Bc I was tired of recruiting LBs so often. Good dline man grow on trees in this game
