Scarlet Nexus/ Surprise JRPG game of the year

So I was reading up in tales of arise because it comes out in 9 days when I ran across a game I’d never heard of even though it released in July, Scarlet Nexus. It’s LARGELY being hailed as trustworthy people in the nine like reviewers and professional players that it is very possibly best Jrpg of 2021. It looks sooo ducking awesome just from watching the clips in gameplay. It has a ps5 edition and PS4. A demo on pstore too. The 4 main bullet point descriptions are
deep customized psychic combat
Exterminate others (mutants fall from sky I guess)
Discover Brain Punk Future
An intense story driven experience
It’s visuals are on par if not exceeding ghost of Tsushima. I just bought it. I know it released 6/25 but can anyone confirm this mega hype I’ve seen explode in two days.
To me it looks like Persona 5 meets Astral Chain sprinkling in Valkyrie chronicles and the tales games. Which makes sense since the tales people made it. It’s on all platforms including pc and is 59.99. Highly recommend checking out reviews and reading up in it. It also has two campaigns think Leon Claire in Re2 but they’re much longer.
Just a p.s Tales I’d Arise looks so amazing two im not trying to overshadow it I bought both but two top tier Jrpgs at once with one I never even knew it saw coming is like Christmas

I’ve heard mixed things about Scarlet Nexus. It was like 30% off on steam a couple of weekends ago but I figured I’d just wait for the Black Friday sale since Tales of Arise was coming out so soon. I instead started playing Bug Fables and have been thoroughly impressed.

I've heard some good things about it as well. I've fallen back so hard into FF14 so I haven't been able to dedicate any time to it though. It's something I want to play before the end of the year though.

I’ve been playing through the guys campaign everyone largely suggest to do his first and the chicks second. The first hour or so feels exactly like the demo, a combat tutorial but what my how amazing the combat is. This is the telekenis game done right. But once that tutorial ends, and trust me you’ll know, the story goes into gear 6 and man it’s good. There’s also really in depth character customization and load outs even some social sim a la persona. I’m not very far though. Code vein vibes are strong but this is done sooooo much better. It also takes roughly 60 hours for both campaigns, has a post game, and new game plus
I recommend the YouTuber Jay RPGs vid Scarlet Nexus review for anyone weighing. 14 minutes long and goes into what makes it awesome with no spoilers. Another really awesome thing they did that they really did not have too is render every single cutscene in real time so all cosmetic choices would display in them, and they did it for 2 separate campaigns m.

Hmmm.
It's classified as an ARPG. What's the combat like?
I dunno about spending $60 on it. Gamepass has spoiled me so bad

The combat is the shining star of this game. Trust me when I tell you this. The demo is free which is basically a 30 minute on rails demonstration of all the basics before you unlock the skull tree. You gain access to insanely amazing things. As it is in spirit a takes game you have bonding experiences which play more like the ones in persona that further add to the combat. You can borrow teammate abilities, trigger what are for all intents persona 5 all out attacks but from what I can tell are random, you gain access at some point to a super seyan mode with a 25 second timer or so that if you let run out kills you. By and large combat is flashy, addicting, deep, and never gets stale as both play through characters are very different one is a sword character playing close with melee the other the opposite. I’m not too far in but from reviews the story is also fairly top notch with invading aliens, humans unlocked psychic powers to combat them, and some sort of evil government and our team of young adults are on the case. There’s gotta be 1000 cosmetics which as I said are all fully populated in every cut scene no skimping. The cutscenes themselves alternate from normal style to a sort of visual novel style. I’ve heard reports from very few people of bugs that can erase saves but you’d have to be super unlucky. It’s also said by time you have started to unlock lots of your powers normal can get easy so recommend playing hard. I 8/10 this game and if you e seen me on this board I don’t do that often and when I do they’re pretty much loved by all. I’ll lastly say the story itself is a bit more coherent if you start as the girl play through first as she’s an established member of the group where the guy is a new recruit but most reccimend the guy first. And if you wanna do the second story next you have the option of playing vanilla or carrying over all upgrades and just blasting through.
And yes it’s an Arpg in the same way the tales series is. The story is a Jrpg trust me
You’ll get 60 hours from both campaigns playing a normal pace. There’s post game and challenges too.
There’s other neat touches thrown in like when using brain field (your super power time limit move) you’ll hear voices that disoriented you and have plot relevance all making your ability to track the death timer harder. The sheer detail of how the world is so populated and what you can do in it with your telekenis is amazing too. Drop oil onto an enemy they’ll catch on fire if you throw some there way, same with other environment effects. You can be affected by status stuff too.
Both MCs fight different, take completely different paths, both do different dungeons and face completely different bosses only conveying for the end
Last thing I’ll say is the game gives open world illusions at time and some level areas are huge but it is a linear game don’t doubt it

Some things you should def do on options screen before starting. Turn off auto lock it’s bad. Turn the camera sensitive down from 4 to at least 3. There’s also custom button mapping but for pc peeps this game was 100% made for a controller so use one if you’re on pc. All of this and the difficulty can be altered in game though. Another point to auto lock on, the reason disable is the best is when you attack an enemy even with it off you’ll auto lock to them and can easily disengage and switch targets

I did not like the game at all. It felt very cheaply made. Cutscenes are placed with still image comic book frames over dialogue. There's only a small handful of areas that you revisit numerous times. The enemies turn into giant sponges.

Play on hard and learn to use the crush mechanic giving instant kills. Borrow teammate power off cool down to target weaknesses and gain advantage. Both play throufhs have different areas. Me thinks you didn’t Play the game or understand it. Yeah enemies are bulletproof sponges if you just attack with your sword
But it is clear the main focus was the combat. If you can deal with persona 5 style cutscenes you’ll enjoy this game

I played the demo for this and Tales of Arise today. I thought the combat for Scarlet Nexus was more fun or atleast I got the hang of it a lot quicker than Tales. Nexus' UI felt very noisy at first once I got out of the tutorial but I eventually figured out what everything was and how to string combos with melee attacks and the psychokinesis attacks.
I'm still a little lost on Tales of Arise's combat. I get that you wanna string combos and build up the counter bar on enemies but it felt like my combos were dropping for no reason sometimes and I never could build up the counter bar on the bosses and the counter would just trigger randomly sometimes.
