Sony PSP 3 Handheld powered by a 3-nm AMD Canis chip with RDNA 5 graphics and 24 GB of unified memory will launch in late 2027 to play native PlayStation 5 games inside a 15W to 25W TDP limit.

Demanding titles render internally at 540p and upscale to 1080p using dedicated PSSR 3.0 neural hardware with frame generation to deliver 30 to 60 FPS. Docked mode boosts GPU clocks to 1.65 GHz, pushing effective theoretical AI graphics performance up to 14 TFLOPS.

Unlike AMD FSR, which produces heavy blur and trailing when scaling low input resolutions to 1080p, PSSR 3.0 reconstructs clean geometry and sharp textures directly on the screen.

540p internal resolution… yikes.

The new intel g3 extreme chip is surprisingly 1080p capable and also has access to framegen. Also kind of crazy to me that it won’t go higher than 25w even while docked.

this isn't that big a deal on a small screen honestly. I turned my ps remote play down to 540p from 720p because it made it lag less and cant really tell the difference

On a 5-inch or 6-inch smartphone, 540p (often called qHD, or 960 × 540) yields around 200 to 220 pixels per inch (PPI)

A standard 30-inch 16:9 monitor at 1080p has about 73 pixels per inch (PPI), while a 30-inch 21:9 ultrawide monitor at WFHD (2560 x 1080) has about 93 PPI.

A standard 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840 × 2160 pixels) on a 30-inch screen yields approximately 147 pixels per inch (PPI), while cinematic DCI 4K (4096 × 2160 pixels) on a 30.5-inch professional display yields about 152 PPI.

What you have said isn’t wrong, but I guess I just think it’s kind of insane that Sony isn’t pushing for at least 720p internal for a device that’s going to be running on the most advanced silicon at what I assume will be an insane asking price. Steam decks are pushing $1,000 and they are pretty old tech by today’s standards, and the top of the line handhelds coming out now are pushing $2,000

Also considering a part of the sell is that they are using PSSR3, upscalers work better the higher the render resolution as well.

Yeah i dont honestly see how there could be a large consumer base for this.

I am interesting in seeing how this pssr 3.0 stuff works tho

I’m definitely the target market as a handheld guy

But price point could do this one in before it even gets off the ground. The PlayStation exclusives just are not significant enough anymore to make this more enticing than PC handhelds if they are operating in a similar price point. Perhaps a cheaper un-dockable option? It’s just hard for me to picture PlayStation being successful in the handheld market.

yeah I love playstations exclusive catalog but if I'm gaming on handheld there are just too many pc games that are more suited to handheld gaming on steam that I would be missing out on.

The leak also didn’t specify what the actual display would be. I assume it’s going to be some kind of IPS 120 display, but that will be pretty disappointing if it’s going to be an expensive device… if you’re going to charge 4 figures for a handheld, it better come with an OLED screen.

wonder what it would take to make this thing $100- $150 max more than the switch, becase that is the only way I can see this thing having any form of success. Even with that the market for it will be niche
