Figured out a nice trick on the PC version - the higher the framerate, the more damage the knife does. Set everything to low and 640x480 resolution and destroyed Birkin with like 15 slashes.

Just finished Leon and started Claire's. I was figuring it'd be more different than this. Seems like they just rearranged the dance sequences so far.

yeah, the second scenarios were really mailed in. none of the wit of the original, just a rearranged A with earlier appearance from X

You can knock out most of RPD in B before he gets there. Just don’t enter the STARS hallway

Finally beat 4th Survivor, 12:18.
Had no grenades for last courtyard but was able to just tank a shite load of hits. If you save your full heal + damage resist herb for this part it's a great place for it. Was able to just absorb 4-5 hits plowing through it and still live and got lucky the big boys didn't grab me.
out of curiosity just checked and there are speedruns who are beating it in like ~9 minutes give or take without taking any damage too, crazy shite.
Tofu mode is hilarious, I only got to the first licker, will not seriously try to beat it though.

you need to beat it. You unlock more tofu variants that are a blast. One has all grenades, one has flamethrower, one has minigun, etc. Just need to beat the first one to open the floodgates

Doing my Claire A/Leon B playthroughs hardcore, I just got to the Mr. X part with Claire, doing a good job hoarding ammo and heals so far. I think the taking off an enemy leg technique is pretty mandatory. Having knowledge of game is obviously making it much more manageable, I know when/where the best places to save are and where the ambushes are and such.
Yeah, this would be one of my strongest criticisms of the game actually.
The 4 scenarios are too unnecessarily similar. They really could have done a few simple things to mix things up.
A few examples: There's no reason the locker and safe combinations should be the same across them all. All 4 should have their own distinct ones.
Another example, in the morgue when you are opening the the body drawers, no reason not to have the drawers have different stuff in them.
These sorta small changes could have been made all over the place and require really no effort to do differently.
Other misc ones:
- Getting to the police station should have been more interesting in both scenarios. Running through the ruined city a little bit before you get to the police station really set the mood and gravity of the situation much better in the original. This game you pretty much immediately start there.
- The story isn't really explained well. I think they did a better job with the exposition in cut scenes in the original explaining things.
- The tone is way, way off in some of the cut scenes.
- The original soundtrack should have been included in the base version.

Agreed on all of that. Leon and Claire only meet at the beginning and the end absurd
you almost have to have played the original to know the story in this. feel bad for newcomers
B scenario shouldve had zapping system and very different routes and the like. see where the other character went in A and have to do something different. doors shouldnt be relocked and the same puzzles shouldnt have to be solved. You should get to the hall and the medallions are already in place from the A character, so the B character has to solve some wrinkle

Leon A/Claire B was originally canon. Then they changed it to Claire A/Leon B. Now I have no idea.
And they removed the best death of the series (Irons getting ripped in half by Birkin from Claire B).

since when?
Claire A / Leon B was the established canon with the original release. there are events that happen only in Claire A and Leon B that are referenced in later titles
i honestly dont see how remake affects the canon since it's so nonsensical in its execution. the campaigns are identical lol.

I haven't seen it mentioned but I'm pretty sure getting bit from behind inflicts more damage on you and you don't get a chance to counter with a subweapon even if you have one.
So yeah, don't get bit from behind.

Bc it’s a very well-made game. Tons of content with more on the way

I don't remember the story being that much more fleshed out in the original. However it has been awhile.
I just finished Leon A.
What would you guys recommend next?

Do you even Wesker's Report, bro? LA/CB was canon until they started working on RE6.

I've read both.

I'm pretty keen on RE lore, I have never seen Leon A / Claire B mentioned as canon. Every forum treats Claire A / Leon B as the real deal
quote:
Like Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 also relies on other games to confirm the true canon, which is an a mixture of Leon A/Claire B and Claire A/Leon B events.
A flashback in Resident Evil: Degeneration confirms Claire fought G-Birkin's first form, as depicted in "Claire B".
Sherry is confirmed in Resident Evil 6 to have been infected with the G-Virus, as depicted in "Claire A".
Ada is confirmed to have been attacked and knocked out by the T-00 in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. 2000's Wesker's Report supported the alternative scene of her falling into the pit, but this was evidently retconned.
