yeah, twice I saw "add to cart" in the past few minutes. But it's gone before you can navigate to place an order.
I'm just trying to order one for my nephew. Already got one from Target yesterday by pure luck. Scalpers are gonna feast this holiday season.

Yeah, while posting here, I just kept refreshing to see the "Add to Cart" option pop back up and finally got one and ordered it fast enough to actually go through.
ETA: Had to get the disk one, though, but at least I got one for the nephew. My sister's too uptight to get him one.

It would have to be a pretty sophisticated bot to defeat CAPTCHA. But for something like this the standard use of CAPTCHA wouldn't help. I would assume these bots most likely are just scripts using PhantomJS or Puppeteer constantly refreshing the page waiting for the item to become available at which point it completes the transaction. The advantage being that the bot can make so many request to the product page per minute, or however long, to find out exactly when the item is in stock and then get through the checkout faster as well. So essentially, checkout would only happen once per successful run of the bot. If you put a CAPTCHA in place during checkout the script could just alert the user to complete the CAPTCHA and then hand control back over to the bot. The bot still does all the heavy lifting, the user just has to be on standby if checkout is achieved.
If you want to stop the bots with CAPTCHA you would need to do something like integrating it into your website so that every page load (HTTP request), or every 'x' number of page loads, requires the completion of a CAPTCHA, but that makes for a terrible user experience. Another way is to limit the number of HTTP requests for an IP address over a certain amount of time, which is why some of you got blocked from certain websites, but this would only stop the most amateur of bots.
So what can you do to level the playing field? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. For the non-coders, there are services out there like Visualping that will monitor changes in a webpage for you and then alert you when the change occurs. How this works is you would set the monitoring service to watch the button or text that says "coming soon" or "out of stock" or whatever bit of text or button shows up when your desired item is not available. Once that item is in-stock the text or button changes to "add to cart" or the "out of stock" text disappears which triggers the monitoring service and alerts you.

I'm probably going to just pull the trigger on the disk version. It's been impossible to get the digital only version for me so far and I've passed up on too many disk version opportunities. Those have sat for a few minutes longer on various sites.
I'd rather just pay the extra hundred to get this over with.
Have an extra controller + charging station pre-ordered on Amazon. So far my must have games are Demon Souls, Cyberpunk, and Black Ops. That list will probably grow as I look into other titles in the near future.
Was thinking about grabbing the headset but I'm a HyperX slave so I'll probably just grab a new pair of those in November.
