That 100+ million PS4 install base isn't going anywhere. Why make PS5 exclusives at all?

Some of us actually want to see games built for the tech inside these new consoles. I'm tired of seeing all these new titles (Halo: Infinite, Horizon: Forbidden West, etc) being tied down by having to run on systems with pathetically outdated Jaguar CPU cores and 5400 RPM hard drives.

Horizon has been built on PS5 for years. That's not really how development works.

They're made on the PS5 for it, then downgraded and ported to the old consoles. Same for Xbox.

It's being built to run on the PS4. Yes, the game will look better on the PS5. The load times will be faster. Maybe some nice global illumination, better depth of field, etc.

But if you can't acknowledge that a system with Jaguar CPU cores, a GCN based GPU, 5.5 GB of GDDR5, and a 5400 RPM mechanical HDD would limit the scope, scale, and overall design of a game project, then I really don't know what to tell you.

it's been phasing in and out. sometimes it shows up, sometimes it gives an error

just ordered 2 to flip. still getting my personal unit from amazon with the chase exploit for $333.

If you think it being ported to PS4 has any barring on it's quality on the PS5, then I don't know what to tell you. I can just reiterate what I told you the first time, that is not how development works.

After watching the trailer for FF16 again I think that is the most disappointing for me. It looks like it is single player action nonsense. I know that I will never get a turn based final fantasy game again, even though a man can dream, but at least build on FFXV and give me a party. Maybe the trailer today was just showcasing the main character but I'm not holding my breath. The only good thing about that trailer was a return to the medieval setting.

Do you really believe that a game built to take advantage of AMD's Zen 2 architecture would be able to run on Jaguar CPUs? If you're writing code for a physics engine or AI to take advantage of Zen 2 cores, it absolutely will not run on Jaguar with any similar level of efficiency. To deny that is to deny the massive IPC and technological improvements offered by the Zen architecture.

Could a game that's built from the ground up to stream in gigabytes of data per second work at all on a system that can load assets at a rate 1/50th of that? It wouldn't be possible. You wouldn't be able to just "downport" your game, you would have to fundamentally change your game design.

Dropping the resolution for a title and turning off a few graphical effects for weaker hardware is one thing (graphics engines are generally highly scalable). But the CPU and I/O advantages offered by the PS5 (and to a lesser extent Series X|S) create game possibilities that are not possible on previous generations.

Cyberpunk 2077 couldn't be backported to a PS2. Witcher 3 wouldn't be able to run on an original Xbox. The increase in hardware computation and technologies allowed these types of games to be built that could not run on prior generations. With Zen 2 CPUs and NVME SSDs in the next-gen consoles, this is the type of revolutionary jump we're talking about here.
