I am thinking of getting one of these for the family. Other than games and DVD player does it serve any other purpose? Can you use it to browse the internet on the TV? Thanks.

Getting an Apple TV and mirror playing porn would be a more cost effective purchase, imo.

It does have a browser, but I don't use it much. I guess if I had a keyborad always hooked up to the PS4 it might seem "worth" it, but for most of the stuff I use the internet for, youtube, WatchESPN, Spotify, there's an app for it on the platform. I usually stream ballgames from reddit but the default browser doesn't support that.

Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and some other crap is what we mainly use it for.

The browser is pretty crappy. It also plays blu ray movies and has all your movie and tv apps, including PSVue of course.

PSVue

What that is?

The last gaming system I owned was a PS2. I am not up to date on all this new stuff.

Vue is a cable service, essentially. Different packages for different prices. Think the cheapest is $40 a month, don't hold me to that.

There's also playstation now for games. $20 a month and you can stream unlimited games from their library. The streaming isn't the best, which kind of makes games that require precision a bit unplayable, but if you aren't too picky, it's a cheaper route of being able to play a lot of games (PS3 games are there and I think some PS2) without having to shell out $60 to see if you'd even like them.

Interesting. This may be good for the kid games. I assume for ace combat, special forces and such it will not be that great.

First person shooters, while playing online, and sports games probably suffer the most.

Red box has games that are available for rent. There is also gamefly which I haven't used but have heard it was pretty fine at the time.

There could be mom and pop rental places here and there if you look for them. Redbox seems to be the only easily accesible place to rent games. Believe they charge $2 for 1 night. That's enough to figure out if you'd want to purchase.

Be warned, download times on the PS4 are kind of garbage. If it's off a disc, it isn't too too bad, but digital downloads take some time.

Tried this a few times, and the value is all right but they are way inconsistent on how long it takes for you to get your games.

There was one in Dallas that I went to all the time. It was awesome for those games you know are going to be short and just want to beat on a weekend.

PS now has a shite load of games. Sometimes they run deals on the service and has stuff from the old systems as well. Def worth it if you dont already have a built up game library.

I see the PS5 May be coming out this year. Any ideas when and if I should wait? Thanks.

It's not. There might be an announcement, but I don't see it releasing anytime soon.

Ps5 is going to be mid 2020 or later. At that time you will be able to trade in a PS4 pro and make the ps5 half the cost
