buy a well established company and it will just move with the market, you can't get hurt too bad unless that company has a drastic disaster or something
its fun to watch everyday and keeps you interested in the state of the economy

thats what i did, i don't have enough money in it to hurt me, and most of it is in blue chip stocks anyway, so its just like a risky savings account

Here at work, we used to do a fantasy stock challenge type deal. We only had so much we could spend, and whoever had the biggest return in overall money by the end of the month, won.

i found a website where you could have a fake account with however much fake money you wanted to start with and buy and sell as you pleased
in 2 months, i had doubled my 10,000 dollars
real world trading - not so much
eta: but the numbers and principles were the same, if i had a real 10k to start with and bought the same stocks, i would have pretty much done the same

yeah, i just dont have too much liquid right now, and whats tied up in stocks right now has already felt the down turn, so i'd be crazy to sell it now
