Anyone have an idea of the material costs for building a house?
i got a couple take-offs recently for my house and they were in the $50k-60k range FWIW
some include the bricks, most don't. Doesn't include concrete for the slab

Gotcha. I want to do as much as I can myself. I'll be getting some land from the in-laws, so I won't be under a deadline to get it done.

I'm subcontracting everything myself when i start. If you are building yourself, i.e. you doing the work, then you can go to your local lumberyard and get a quote.
If you are subcontracting framers to frame, sheetrockers to sheetrock, etc., most want to use their own material supplier b/c they get discounted rates

This whole process is unfamiliar territory for me. I don't know when I'll start, but I know it's easy to overspend.
My FIL built his house on his own, but some of his advice my be dated. It's been nearly 30 years since he built.
Thanks for the info.

This is my first, and hopefully last, venture into it. My main worry and area of concern is that i'm going to overspend. But luckily, i have a general contractor for an uncle and he said he'd help.
Just remember that the lowest price may not always be the best work.
I plan on doing the crown molding, paint, clean up, pulling electrical wires(with my uncle)myself.

Jesus, dude. Good luck with that.

Yeah, if I subcontract, my FIL will oversee the work while I'm not around. Anything I can do myself, I'll do. I'd like to move into the house owning it. Lofty goal, I know.

well, my ole man knows a lot about doing the crown molding, and i won't have a ton of it, so hopefully that goes smooth
As far as painting goes, i have a lot of friends that plan on coming help me out
Mindy Blanchards dad is the uncle i'm referring to. We talked, and i don't think he's going to charge me labor if i help him out, just material

It helps to have help, that's for sure. I hope it goes smoothly.
