Then I have been doing it wrong lately.
I had to finish the campaign...felt like a waste of time afterwards.

You get points if it's damaged. I've repaired tanks after people have bailed and got points.

last night i set some down on a narrow path and i saw a jeep coming
i just stood there in the street so he'd try to run me over like "COME AT ME BRO"
about 50 yard before he got to me, his jeep went skyward in flames

I've gotten hit by rockets while in my tank, gotten out to do repairs and not gotten points for it.

I want to say that you only get points if someone else is in the tank. I've wondered that as well when I hop out to repair. Don't see the points.

Thats because you werent aiding your teammates with your repair... This entire page says exactly what you just said
Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

It's because if no one's in it, the game thinks it's a neutral tank. Just like if you see a vehicle sitting by itself and you blow it up, you don't get vehicle destroy points unless you've actually damaged it while someone was in it.

everything you would want to know about AT mines
quote:
Basics:
Before I start this guide please be aware: AT mines are placed in your gadget slot, removing any ability you have to actually repair, know this and inform your pilot or gunner if you are in a vehicle. It is very frustrating to expect your partner to save a vehicle under fire (or on fire!) with repair only to find out they cannot.
If you are using AT mines, it is highly suggested you use the EXPL perk earned at rank 11. (Or be in the rare squad that has Squad EXPL) This doubles your rocket ammo AND your number of carried AT mine ammo. With only the default 3 AT mines, mines are more of a novelty or for use with an actively manned ambush.
As in BFBC2, 2 AT mines will instantly destroy a tank, so use 2 placed together or separated by less than a tank width. The active mine limit for placement is again 6, and they persist after you die & respawn, even with another kit. So consider killing another Engineer and take his kit with repair tools after you place your mines. It is currently unknown if the 2nd to last Heavy Tank unlock "Reactive Armor" will allow a tank to survive a 2 mine explosion. If it acts similarly to the AA tank "Reactive armor" that answer is no. It only protects from side hits.
BF3 mines are taller, with a more unnatural rounded shape without features that break up it's shape.
BF3:
Rounded, taller, darker(much darker than this pic), clear outline:
BFBC2:
Slim, wider, lighter coloration, non-obvious shape broken up by features:
Personally I think they are now much easier to spot. So, keeping this in mind, on to the most important part of AT mine usage:
Placement:
With AT mines, placement is everything. Know the routes tanks take, and even more importantly, know how to hide them.
If the street is clear, blow up a section of wall or concrete road block with either an Anti-Tank emplacement missile or Anti-Tank rocket. Place mines inside the resulting rubble pieces if the rubble is tall enough. The mine will completely disappear from view. Many times a single piece of rubble will fit two AT mines inside it. If it is not large enough, there may be two conveniently placed pieces of rubble to use that fit single mines. If you have limited rubble to work with, have the AT mine(s) stick out the back side of the rubble. (front being the expected travel path of tanks) This also works for many already in place at map start semi-large stones; the mine slides neatly into the rock itself.
When placing AT mines under tree shadows, make sure to watch the moving shadow for a moment, and only place mines "Where the sun don't shine". A mine in a spot where the movement of the tree makes a continually changing light/dark spot is easy to spot.
If none of the above are available, use tufts of grass, or the dividing line between light and dark patches on the road, and place them just inside the darker areas, the change in color usually hides the mine shape and color difference when looking at if from the road (You want a dark background for your mine silhouette). Also, if there is only space for one well hidden mine, another mine off the side of the road hidden in a curb will add enough to the explosion to net you a kill.
Remember that mines placed on top of each other or on invalid "active" objects (like road cones) will override your placement aim and put them at your feet, so leave room for the second mine inside an object when placing. If you have bad placement, hold reload and pick them back up if your immediate area is safe - but don't ever be single minded in dropping mines in hot areas, oblivious and single minded mine layers die quick. (such as myself) Defend yourself first, then drop mines.
Don't be constrained by typical placing mines around a flag, look for traveled paths between regularly contested flags, and find good spots there. Drivers go "more alert" as they approach objectives, mine the boring drive between destinations.
Mine mechanics:
If you are Support with C4, please PLEASE blow up any AT mines you spot that are not on your map (Any mine not showing on your map is not from your team). You have all the explosives you want, and get points and ribbons for doing it - and heck, it's hella fun to do. Every other class has to sacrifice grenades or rockets for the benefit and safety of the team.
Will detonate AT mines: All explosives & explosive vehicle guns, AA tank main gun, large caliber bolt action sniper rifles
Will not detonate AT mines: Pistols up to & including 0.45 cal 1911, Assault rifles, Carbines, SMGs
Needs to be tested on AT mines: Semi-auto sniper rifles (Mk11, SVD) Magnum revolvers 0.45 & 0.44 cal, Jeep & Humvee MG, Tank gunner seat MG, HMG/LMG secondary tank weapons, EOD bot (can it attack a mine?, can it roll over one and set it off?)
If anyone else knows other ways to blow up an AT mine or can add to the list, or notice any inaccuracies, please share.
(additional info edits thanks to: Belmark616,Robe874n6)
Strangeness and bugs:
If you place mines then switch teams, you can kill yourself on your own mine.
Currently there is a (intentional or not intentional) bug where the exp you earn for mines will be awarded to whatever kit or vehicle you are currently in. I have earned about 600+ exp while unskillfully flying in a jet from AT mine kills, and this was applied to Jet unlock Exp.
