Has anyone played this? For some reason I've been on an Origin kick lately. I re-downloaded Battlefront II last night which I bought in April 2019 for $6. I only had 2 hours total. I played a Capital Supremacy match that lasted about 2 hours alone last night . We went to a Ground War 3 total times and the first two were stomps, but we won the last then destroyed the objectives on the ship.

I had to pick up Titanfall 2 for that price though even though I never played 1. I know it's similar to Apex Legends right? Which I have also been playing a ton of lately again.

Underappreciated shooters for sure. First Titanfall was fun but no real campaign. They put one in 2 and it's honestly one of the better ones I've ever played in a shooter.

MP is really fun if you're not scared of the parkour space stuff. Respawn builds maps that actually accommodate that type of gameplay, so it works really well. The only hard part might be finding people still playing it, but with the arrival of Apex Legends there was an uptick in the player base.

Both games had questionable launch windows, smack dab in the middle of other big name shooters and they both got lost in the shuffle.

Nice. I didn't know this.. so I don't need to go read the plot on the Titanfall 1 Wikipedia page? And honestly I didn't really buy it for MP anyway, since I knew this one did have a campaign. Think I saw xQc play a bit of it.

It's essentially the MP with story elements sprinkled in, but I never touched it so I can't say how much of that carries over to 2, but I don't feel like I missed out on anything and I imagine if you wanted to read up on it......shouldn't take you long.

From the wiki:

quote:

Setting:

Humanity lives in the deepest reaches of explored space in a vast region known as The Frontier. It contains many well-known and inhabited star systems, but many more worlds remain uncharted. Most people will never travel this far away from normal civilization, but for pioneers, explorers, mercenaries, outlaws, and soldiers, the Frontier offers both adventure and opportunity.

Major interplanetary corporations such as Hammond Robotics—a major manufacturing, aerospace and defense contractor—uses resources of the Frontier to make builds of mecha-combatants such as Titans and Spectres. Titans are descendants of present-day fledgling military exoskeletons. In addition to the obvious combat applications, unarmed forms of Titans are used in heavy industries like cargo transport and deep space ship salvage. They are also used in special applications such as deep space search and rescue, and are very effective in inhospitable environments. The use of Titans is widespread throughout the Frontier in both combat and civilian life. As with Titans, the Frontier contains Pilots of many different styles and experiences. Titan Pilots are rated by 'certifications', most of which apply to civilian applications, such as construction, shipping, and heavy salvage industries. The most prestigious of these is the Full Combat Certification - a widely published series of tests that grade a Titan Pilot's abilities. Because of the extreme physical and mental challenges of mastering both Titan combat & dismounted parkour movement, a fully combat certified Titan Pilot is a rare find, and the combat skills of active Pilots in the field varies widely throughout the Frontier.

The Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation, otherwise known as the IMC, started out small, in natural resource extraction industries, under the name Hammond Engineering. Increasing demand for Titan manufacturing materials, combined with Hammond's market-cornering planetary survey technology and map database rights, contributed to explosive growth for the company. Over the course of a century, a series of acquisitions, mergers, and re-brandings lead to the transformation of Hammond Engineering into the ruthless commercial empire that is the IMC. With the Frontier’s valuable shipping lanes and vast planetary resources ripe for exploitation, the IMC is dedicated to maximizing profits and shareholder wealth, using the legal application of force when necessary.

The Frontier Militia represents the military arm of the Frontier systems' territorial defense pact. The Militia is a loosely governed mishmash of homesteaders, bandits, mercenaries, and pirates, all rising up as 'citizen soldiers' when the need arises. Each brigade within the Militia is responsible for fighting in an assigned section of Frontier territory. Although some brigades are little more than vast pirate organizations, the Militia has enough resources to be a real obstacle to the IMC's ambitions on the Frontier. The Militia often claims that direct action against the IMC is in the best interest of the homesteaders whom they allegedly represent, but not everyone on the Frontier sees it that way.

Eventually, a war breaks out on the Frontier between the IMC and the Militia, known as the Titan Wars. Hammond Robotics distribute many resources to these factions—mainly the IMC—to use combatants such as Titans, Spectres and Marvin-created technology for advanced warfare. Militia commanders such as Sarah and Cheng "Bish" Lorck struggle against the IMC, led by Vice Admiral Marcus Graves. During the events of Titanfall, Pilots, Grunts, Spectres and Titans of the IMC and Militia go through stages of war in multiple locations.

quote:

Plot:

The Militia's "Marauder Corps" performs a raid on a fuel mining planet to support the civilian fleet it is assigned to. During the battle, the Militia ship "Redeye" is attacked by the IMC. Whether the ship is destroyed or saved is dependent on which team, the IMC or Militia, wins the battle. Regardless, Sarah and Bish, the leaders of the Militia, discuss that they need more leaders, because they alone cannot manage the troops efficiently.

After the raid, the IMC chases the Militia to the nearby planet of Troy, where the Militia attempt to hide. The IMC encounters a colony of humans on the planet, which was thought to have been uninhabited. Blisk, the leader of IMC ground troops, decides to use the opportunity to test their new model of war machines, Spectres. After he sadistically slaughters the majority of the colony, the Militia decides to step in and help the colonists. A battle ensues in the colony during which both sides are contacted by a soldier named MacAllan, the apparent leader of the colony, who expresses outrage at its destruction.

The Militia chases MacAllan to the nearby wreckage of an IMC ship, the Odyssey. He reveals the ship is his, and that he used to work for the IMC but mutinied. The colony had been made up of the Odyssey's crew. Recognizing the noble cause of the Militia, he agrees to lead the faction against the IMC. His first action as the leader of the Militia is to retrieve Barker, an expert dropship pilot and an old wingman of MacAllan's. MacAllan uses Barker's knowledge of hidden IMC bases to find "The Boneyard", an IMC base with state of the art wildlife repulsor technology. A battle ensues at this base, and the IMC eventually scuttle it, but not before the Militia gather enough intelligence to produce a device which can disable the repulsor technology.

To test this device, called "The Icepick", the Militia invade IMC Airbase Sierra. They successfully manage to disable the base's defenses, leaving it vulnerable to attacks from hostile alien fauna. The Militia employ this same tactic again at Demeter, a critical refueling station for the IMC that allows it to gain fresh troops and supplies from the "Core Systems".

When the Battle of Demeter begins, MacAllan intrudes to assist a group of Militia pilots who were stranded outside of their intended drop zone. He enters the facility, and is chased by Blisk, who intends to kill MacAllan personally. During the battle, it becomes apparent that the Militia will not be able to successfully activate the protocol that will cause the base to self destruct. MacAllan offers to destroy the base manually by causing a meltdown at its central core, much to the horror of Sarah and Bish. Blisk abandons MacAllan when he enters the core to avoid the lethal radiation. MacAllan orders the Marauder Corps to flee, and IMC Commander Spyglass denies evacuation to all the IMC ground troops, except for Blisk, who evacuated just in time. In his final moments, MacAllan contacts Graves, an IMC leader and his former Commanding Officer. MacAllan reminds Graves of his letting MacAllan go when he took the Odyssey, and urges Graves to lead the Militia once he is dead. Graves is moved by MacAllan's words, and abandons the IMC shortly after Demeter and MacAllan are destroyed in a massive explosion.

A month later, Graves is leading the Militia, and Blisk has been promoted within the IMC. During a one on one confrontation over radio, Blisk denounces Graves for being a traitor, and vows to continue fighting the Militia.

Absolutely one of my favorite games of all time. They nailed just about every aspect of it, even the parkour stuff that i normally hate.

I think this is one of those games where my expectations were just too high. After hearing about what an amazing campaign it has for so long, I’m finally playing it and it’s....ok.

On the Beacon mission. I suspect at this point if I don’t love it I’m just not going to.
