Sorry I haven’t been on TD for like a month I was trying to catch up on all this and just chose one
Can you give me a fairly short summary of the last 3-4 pages since I posted summing up your position vs your detractors?
Sure.
Me: If XBOX makes this same decision, I'll move to PC (or stick with Helix if it does the same and allows PC gaming stores and is comparable to what I could get in a PC).
Them: Steam has an illegal monopoly on the PC gaming market.
Me: Steam doesn't have a monopoly at all because there are competitors.
Them: Look at these antitrust lawsuits!
Me: You should read those lawsuits, because what they're alleging is exactly how Sony acts in the console market now. (The gist of the antitrust lawsuits is Steam is using its position as market leader to choke out competition.)
That's pretty much the gist of it. They claim the PC marketplace has no competition and therefore there is no difference between the PC digital gaming marketplace and the console digital gaming marketplace. I view that as a ridiculous assertion.

Didn’t we already discuss all this? I brought it up, Carson agreed with my position, then it seemed settled.
Did they re drag it up?

Yes. I was asked what I would do if XBOX moves to no discs also, which they clearly have not decided yet, and they brought this back up when I responded that I'd move to PC.

Just a few Sony first party games, how much estimated or known total revenue they made in sales and what % of that was physical sales
Spider Man 2/ 1.3 Billion/ 35%
Ghost of Yotei/ 420 million/ 37.6%
Astro Bot/ 275 million/ 46.8%
Death Stranding 2/ 142 million/ 41.8%
Spider Man 2/ 1.3 Billion/ 35%
Ghost of Yotei/ 420 million/ 37.6%
Astro Bot/ 275 million/ 46.8%
Death Stranding 2/ 142 million/ 41.8%

For sure. The comparisons of digital v physical sales for games that actually released and actually had a physical edition are fairly even compared to the narrative being pushed.

I really want to know things like % of certain third party games like RE9 and Claire Obscure were physical.
The data would be tainted either way because in capcoms case they intentionally did a very limited run of physical copies that sold out immediately and in Sandfalls case they vastly underestimated how much their game would sell and also sold out of physical immediately however they did come around again and print more physical copies. I bought one myself
I’m still curious though

You can actually still get copies of Clair Obscur, which is awesome. I wish I had gotten one of the collectors editions.

Same.
It’s one of my favorite games ever I would’ve loved to be able to get the collectors edition and the merch.
At least I was able to buy a physical copy though during their second print run, which was nice of them to do they didn’t have to do it obviously

They still have some of the "mirror editions" on Amazon, but those seem like a scam honestly. I love the game but I'm not interested in buying a version for a random selection of trading cards.

There's an inbound class action suit that is bringing 44+ instances where Sony talks about personal ownership of digital purchases.

Seems like a lot more than the reported "10%"...
FFS if it's about money and profit then just charge $5-10 more for the disc version.
But we all know this is really about these companies desperately trying to institute a "games as a service" purchas model so you have to pay for the privilege of playing the game in perpetuity.

This is what Nintendo is doing. I'll happily pay $10 more for the physical edition.

This is exactly what I said several times. If it's a niche product for a niche audience, so be it, just charge a premium for it. Tons of niche products work exactly that way.
It's obvious that Sony simply does not want physical versions to exist at all and are going out of their way to execute them.
Video game companies have actually been longing to do this shite for decades, they just never had the technology ecosphere to do it until now.
This completely dishonest, blatant corporate power grab should piss everyone off, even if you stopped buying physical games years ago. Noting these companies is doing is designed to help their customers in any way. Everything they get away with will lead to more shite down the line.

Update on the PS Blackout:
I don't know that this so-called blackout is really the way to get Sony's attention. If you enjoy playing your games I don't know that depriving yourself of that really teaches Sony a lesson.
And maybe there isn't really a way, but I imagine if Sony keeps going the way they are many will vote with their wallets and spend their gaming funds elsewhere or just stick with PS5/PS4 titles for the next decade or so.

Yeah we're talking about a policy that isn't in effect yet here. There is no "PS Blackout" currently.

Not really, these folks tried to organize a "blackout" of PS services just a week or so ago so it is real time, long before the so-called "stop production of physical discs" is effective.
Why wasn't it effective?
Lots of reasons. But if I'm protesting Ford Motor Company, me walking to work sure isn't going to affect Ford. Now, of I buy a Honda or Chevy instead, that may have an effect.

Exactly. If there is going to be a pushback, it'll happen when the product that will be affected is actually being sold. Stopping playing things you already own would just be stupid.

Saw news this was settled I think for 8 million unless this is a separate one I know Sony is facing lawsuits out the arse right now.
