how much of an upgrade is that 270X compared to that 7878?
It isn't at all. The 270x is the same card as the 7870, it was just rebranded. You could crossfire with it though, and get a big upgrade.

not sure about this.

Why?
You would get a big upgrade. CFx scales better than SLi usually but less gams have great CFx profiles.

Do you question the accuracy of his statement? You can crossfire the 7870 (non-tahiti) with the 270x.

Sounds like some type of console talk.

So I finally got my build... built, up and running. Pretty proud of myself for it being my first one. Special thanks to ILikeLSUToo' guide and for his input. And also LSU Coyote. These were the specs: LINK. Just working out a couple of kinks. Those cards are MSI and MSI has a preset OC app that allows you to choose between 3 preset settings (Power save, Gaming, and OC). I don't care so much about using it, only that I tried to fire it up just to make sure I wasn't on a low setting, and it won't run. Keeps telling me to either turn SLI on in Nvidia control panel, or if it's already on, to turn it off then back on. It will never run. SLI is already enabled in the nvidia control panel. The app does show a GPU speed of ~300 which had me concerned... but im guessing that is just at idle. It got me curious if something else was wrong in my settings or drivers.
I've ran a few games (BF4, Crysis 3, Assassin's Creed) and every time Nvidia GeForce Experience recommends pretty high settings, but not max settings, which i kinda expected (maybe im overestimating my system). So with that concern I ran it through 3dMark test and got these results:
So im guessing everything is good. One other thing is that I can't get "Intel Rapid Start" to stop trying to run on boot. I don't care for it. Uninstalling it via Windows only un-installs the GUI for it. After booting I keep getting a message that Rapid Start is not enabled. I've tried going into regedit and removing anything to do with Rapid Start with no help. I've even tried using it by enabling it in the BIOS and partitioning a part of my boot drive but I still get the error.
I really appreciate everyones help with the build and if you have any tips or suggestions please let me know.
PS. Since I got two cards, I still have free download codes for a copy of Assassins Creed IV Black Flag, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and Batman Arkham Origins that I haven't used. Im guessing anyone can use them. Batman is through Steam, and the other two are through the Uplay app. I'd like to give ILikeLSUToo or LSU Coyote first crack but if they don't want them first come first served I guess.

Have y'all seen the new Corsair 250D Mini-ITX
Yes, I love how iTX is FINALLY getting love.
I'm really interested in what cases the Steam Boxes will bring to market. Finally I might finally have a case with a dedicated GPU which can fit inside our entertainment thing.
EDT: I love that Corsair 250D BTW. Corsair still makes some of the best cases around.

About how many hours did it take you from starting the build until getting the comp up and running?

Post up your build in the benchmarking contest and use those codes as prizes. I have my codes as prizes as well
