I can always test a DAC and return it. I just don't think it will matter to my ears. Half the time I'm gaming while the portable AC unit is running right by me, or the TV is on. I'm probably going to get open headphones. Reading more about it, I realize that I've owned closed ones before, and they can be too congesting, almost like airplane cabin pressure, and since I have a family with young child(ren) in the house, I'd rather be able to hear the outside world.

I game with my headphones on one ear and not the other. That's also why I don't put much into my sound setup

I only do this when I'm getting yelled at.

Makes it seem like I sort of care.

What do you use for virtual surround? I watched some comparison videos, and Dolby Surround seemed the best, but then I read a little further, watched that Tek Syndicate Video and then watched the Virtual Barber Shop video on youtube that they recommended, using stereo only (every possible effect/filter of my ALC1150 drivers was off). So I don't know.

OK, that's what I thought and part of what helped me confirm that my only necessary upgrade should be headphones.

I'm browsing the NewEgg end of year sales right now and starting to think, wow they are actually pretty damn good in some areas.

One of the cheapest is the 60-120G SSD area. A lot of OCZ SSDs for sale cheap ad rightfully so, the company went bankrupt. None the less they still made quality SSDs and the Vertex 3/4 series dominated the SSD market until Samsung's Pro series.

I personally am still running a 256GB Vertex 4 as my boot/OS drive in my main rig while my Samsung 840s 1x500 / 1x240 serve as storage and gaming library.

So those in the market for an extra SSD for storage, look into the Vertex 4 line of SSDs. They are still one of the fastest drives on the market.

The receiver has a built in sub so there isn't really an option. I need to turn it down but it just echoed on the wood too much which wasn't shocking.

That isn't a subwoofer.

I need a cheap build including kb/m and cd burner. Basic internet browsing and music listening and some baseball game watching is about all he will ever do. He does have about 10 days worth of music, so it will need some storage

Look at the APU build I posted a few posts before. Just add a KB/M and another iTX case for CD burner.

Shtt ILikeLSUToo you had me wondering about my theory on games and how most do not enjoy high clocks.

Played DayZ for about 1hr and was stable @ my cards max 1246. Then tried playing ACIV with an OC above the known max for these GK110s @ 1215; crash within a few minutes. Tried again with all the juice I could pump into the cards and same thing crash. Restarted to play at 1189 with no issues what so ever with locked frames @ 65-80% usage.

There is probably some technically data which can be obtained but I don't know what exactly where one would look. It could be a game engine, driver or combination of the two. All I know is that most games do not enjoy high clocks, especially anything past 1200. It could be a nVidia issue also, since you have never experienced. I don't know but it has been something which was always observed.
