The game itself and nVidia's current 331.93 (and all previous) are terribly unoptimized for this game. I'm running a 2x780Ti set up @ 1202 OC. If I would to turn everything up @ 1440, it would be an unplayable 30-35 with only 1 card showing ONLY 40-50% usage. Now I found the sweet spot for my eye, so i'm getting the steady 60+ FPS.
So the point being, make sure you STAY ON TOP OF DRIVER AND GAME UPDATES. The game has a shtt ton of issues with nVidia cards which ARMA II never gave me.

Let us hope not, Classic DayZ ran great on all my main setups for almost 1.5yrs. It was a pretty diverse line up, ranging from single to SLi and dual gpu cards.

Well, it's still very alpha. Most of the settings don't seem to affect frame rate like they should. I'm sure it will eventually have multi-GPU support, but right now it is what it is.

Oh yeah, it is still very playable. Just stating how I was shocked since ARMA II /DayZ has always been an easy title to run.

Question for you pc gurus
I'm going to build a rig with in the next month
initially I set my budget at around 1k, however I'm now debating on expanding that budget to build a rig that can handle games at 1440p
but I'm trying to figure out if it will be worth my $ to do so. I figure most games out there now go 1080p? how many PC games out there now take advantage of 1440p. will the pc upscale games, or would having a rig capable of 1440p only be useful for playing small list of games that can be played at that resolution

Essentially every game will do 1440p and beyond. Occasionally I'll come across some stupid indie game that won't have anything beyond 1080, or a game made in early 2000s/late 90s or something.
The question is how much more are you willing to extend your budget for 1440p. It's 33% more pixels, but most game engines are going to require more than 33% greater GPU power to run the game at the same settings you'd get out of 1080p. The taxation on GPU/memory becomes astronomical with hardware-based antialiasing at these higher resolutions, but the up side is that antialiasing is as necessary at 1440p and beyond.

I wanted to try to keep it around 1600 if its possible to run 1440p well on a rig with that budget. I could maybe push it to around 1800 if necessary, but I'd rather not

hey, I got you email. I haven't contacted you back yet because I am still debating whether or not I'm going to go with the more expensive rig

You will need more than $200 for a 1440p monitor, though. About $329-359 shipped: LINK
Regardless of whether or not you go for the more expensive rig, I'd go ahead and get a 780, especially if Blue is offering a good deal. If you're looking for high-ultra settings at 1440p, it won't be long before you'd need a second 780 anyway. If it weren't for the fact that AMD cards are out of reach at the moment, I'd say get a R9-290 for $400 and be done with it until you're ready to add another 290.
This would be a baseline build for 1440p, comes in at around $1300 not including monitor (and assuming $500 for the 780 at retail): LINK
A couple of upgrades you could make:
1. Up the CPU to the 4770k if you do a lot of video editing/encoding or plan on streaming gameplay.
2. Add another 8GB of RAM if you multi-task on a borderline unhealthy level like I do.
3. Upgrade the SSD capacity to 240-256GB to store more games/software and/or upgrade the HDD capacity if you're a media hoarder.

Between 79 and 83. I'm not too worried about it since AMD has come out and said that these cards are perfectly fine even at 95C.

Well 80C is okay but 85C is sort of unsettling.
I'm really asking this because of thermal throttling. Just wondering if middle card is throttling, if so it could greatly affect the performance.

I really think I would get a 770 at that price right now just because of all the heat those produce.
