I already knew about that for a while, but I guess it's official now. They've been difficult to find for a while now, and the AP-15s were going up in the $20+ range. Very sad. Guess I'll have to go back and do more research on whatever the latest and greatest silent, most efficient fan is, next time I need some. Hope my 9 AP-15s last me while.

EDIT: Hadn't heard of these new Flex fans though. My guess is that if Nidec and Scythe ended their relationship, it was over money. So the grand flex fans are probably made more cheaply, hence they aren't naming them gentle typhoons even though they retain rights to the name.

Yup, I tried to find some back in the summer and everywhere was out of stock or just didn't carry them.

I see some used AP-15s on ebay for a decent price. someone selling a few for $11.99. Maybe I should order one or two spares in case one of mine gives out.

This build places a standard emphasis on graphics card power (a third of the budget), and still maintains day-to-day nongaming performance. We can put more back into the GPU by going with an AMD CPU/mobo and cutting out the SSD (which would be frowned upon by me and others). A few flaws in my above configuration are: - The case is an inexpensive, functional placeholder. Your preferences will vary, and likely require you to spend more money if looks/features are important. - The GTX 770 is about 20% faster than the GTX 760, but the price is over 30% more, so the extra performance comes at a small premium. There's no telling when the AMD cards will be reasonably priced and in stock again. Even the retailers are gouging people now, and they are still out of stock. I would avoid buying an AMD card on principle alone at this point, unless you can find, brand new, a 280X for $300, a 290 for $400, or a 290X for $550.

thanks, I don't care about the case. I won't be looking at it. as long as it will fit stuff and cool well

I appreciate you making that build. Once I get through reading the rest of that guide and doing some extra research I will use it as my baseline

You say that now. Later down the road when you want to add more stuff or tidy up the cabling, you're going to hate yourself for buying some cheap piece of shite. Trust me, I've been there.

Bruce is 100% correct. Always purchase and spend more than you would on a Case, PSU and SSD. They will treat you good in the long run.

CaseLabs cases... just wanted to stress how good their cases are again.

Used or new? $11.99 is a great price. I need to send you one of these e-loops, I believe you will be impressed. My system is so much more quite and runs 3-4 degrees cooler than those SP120s from Corsair.

Caselabs cases are good, but $300+ is a poor buy within a limited budget. The budget pie chart in my guide is generally the correct guideline. That case, while an inexpensive no-frills case, is actually decent quality, one of the best for the price. True, you won't be able to add much more to it in the way of SLI/liquid cooling, but it's functional.

The first from-scratch build is a gateway drug anyway. You'll want more/better everything eventually. I'm not against starting out with a good case. You'll save money in the long run if this becomes a hobby. Just don't downgrade something else to do it.

Cracked my newNexus 7's screen tonight.

First cracked screen I have ever had on a device. Always just cracked the backs of my 4 and 4S. This sucks, my life is over with.

Dude, I'd probably cry. My Nexus 7 is probably my favorite toy I own at the moment.

The newNexus 7 made me switch from iOS to Android.

I'm not going to purchase another one because I have a Nexus 5 now. Almost pointless to own both. Especially when the Nexus 5 has a SnapDragon 800 compared to the newNexus 7's SnapDragon 600.

I ordered a Nexus 5 last week. How do you like it?
