How is that ps4? Done with it yet?
Posted on 11/20/13 at 8:02 pm to Mr Gardoki
I watched a ps4 teardown video the other day. The PSU takes up half the case.

Wanna rub dicks tonight?
Posted on 11/20/13 at 8:05 pm to Mr Gardoki
I'll keep it through the holidays unless supply drops and demand rises.
I'm hoping for someone to hack the firmware so we can load W7/Linux. I love my 5800K already but just imagine it with GDDR5 VRAM!

I'm sure some form of a Linux kernal will be available at some point, but if it's anything like the way they locked down the ps3 firmware with fragmented updates in the background, it will be tough.

Nice hardware and build mann. A 4770K/780Ti combo will run anything @ 1080.
I have to admit though, not all your posts when picking parts had been read. Simply because I get tired of the build help topics. Its just always the same ole Jane. You sir proved to not be a same ole Jane with that TI.
What will be your final specs and gaming intentions?
Thanks, I know I am nowhere near you guys, but it's nice to finally have something that won't run like dog shite. I have been limping along a few year on an old rig that needed replacing bad. My gaming tends to be more simulation stuff lately. I run ARMA 3 a lot and I was stuck on grunt patrol because I couldn't run distances for sniper or CAS. I use to do a lot of league road racing, may get back into that. Then just play a lot of random games that come out. Was big into DayZ for awhile, be nice be able to try out Arma 3 Breaking Point that just came out. With my gig service and an 3570k machine that I use in my arcade, I will probably start running a server at some point.
Final Specs are:
Fractal R4
Asus RoG Formula
4770k
16 gig Corsair Vengeance Pro 2133
250 gig Samsung EVO SSD
2 TB WD HDD
XFX 850W
Debating getting a Corsair H100 setup or going full EK cooling, just not happy with the 212.
Loaded up windows and few steam games last night, discovered an issue already. Plugged in several headsets and have a really bad echo on both the FP connections and the rear. Quick search of the internet had a post that said it was solved by flashing the bios a few times, another just got a seperate sound card, and another one never found a solution. Spent the extra money to get the good sound with the RoG board, kinda ridiculous for this to have issues. Tried removing the front panel connections and adjusting pretty much everything in the asus setup and windows setup. Uninstalled the realtec drivers and went with windows drivers with no luck. Reinstalled the realtec, no luck. Probably going to end up calling ASUS tonight and flashing the bios. Seems there were two newer versions of bios that were on the Asus website that have since been removed, I am on the one that is currently listed as the newest. Anyone else got any ideas?
Removed the rack last night and moved everything down. Moved that fractal white fan to the bottom of the case and added some Corsair AF140 and 120s up top.

How were the graphics. I know it's nothing compared to your 780 ti's at 1440p but how would it be compared to my 7870 at 1080p?

No. You want at least 21.5" or 1080p. You can find those for ~$100

They are okay. More like a waterdowned Far Cry 3 but with a ton of graphical options that dont do much.
I'll run on my 8320/7950 test rig for you.
Posted on 11/21/13 at 1:22 pm to LSU Coyote
I'm just curious to know how my rig compares to it. I have the advantage in cpu but i'm not sure about gpu.

With everything maxed out, my two overclocked 7970s get about 25-35fps. So, your 7870 has no chance of coming close to maxing it out. But luckily, as Coyote says, the graphic options on the higher end do very little (other than lower your framerate). It is what it is -- a typical shitty ubisoft port.
I'm still playing around with settings to see which ones are most taxing and least effective.

You talking about AC4? I heard it has crossfire issues but that may be internet bullshite. Hopefully the next beta driver from AMD has improvements. Nvidia just released theirs recently with AC4 fixes.
Posted on 11/21/13 at 2:29 pm to Mr Gardoki
Yeah, AC4. I would consider the crossfire issues minor compared to what I'm used to experiencing when the term "crossfire issue" comes up. Basically, it's not fully scaling the cards, but I'm still getting up to 80% GPU usage per card (fluctuates a lot depending on the scene, but it will max out at 80). I think a driver update would help get it to 90+, and perhaps more consistently, and it would allow me to change a few settings (like using soft shadows -- the high and low seem to affect framerate the same-- and HBAO+). I doubt a new driver would let me run any amount of MSAA though. It suffers the same issue as Crysis 3, where any level of hardware-based AA is crippling. Except Crysis 3 looks way better.
Truth is, nobody appears to be getting the performance one would expect with their level of hardware. Seeing just as many NVidia users saying the same thing, running a "typical" high-end setup, like a single 780TI or even a 6990. Not that the game is unplayable. Just that many of the extra "PC-friendly" settings are more crippling than they should be.
However, I'll disable crossfire and let you know what kind of frames I get on a single 7970. I'll dial the card down to stock as well. I'm playing at 1440p, so that should give you a rough idea of what to kind of sort of expect with a 7870 (is it a tahiti?) at 1080p.

pitcairn 7870, 2 generations back. Those issues don't sound that bad. AC3 setting crushed the performance but when you raised them the game looked the fricking same so they just did a terrible job across the board with that one.
Posted on 11/21/13 at 2:47 pm to Mr Gardoki
I'm running around 40-50% with everything up. Those 7970s are more than capable.
It has to be driver issues.

Ok, as promised, ran with a single 7970. Here are the settings that give me a playable 60fps with occasional dips to 50-55.
Environment, texture, and reflection quality are maxed out. Shadow quality has a very high setting, as well as soft shadow (high or low) settings. The soft shadows downsample the edges of shadows. Looks ok, a little gimmicky, needs better optimization. Anti-aliasing has some ridiculous settings unattainable by even a typical high-end build.
The single card is giving me 85% GPU usage -- that would be the driver issue. Bringing it up to 95% usage would be helpful, but it won't fix the developer blunders typical of ubisoft.
