Yeah every monitor I'm looking at has Freesync, even the cheapies at Microcenter.

Then don’t worry about having too high of a max framerate. Doesn’t matter. Will refresh clean, regardless.

Just make sure to come back once you have it so we can make sure you have sync turned on. It’s usually not on my default. You don’t want to know how many people pay a ton for 144hz adaptive refresh monitors to then not realize they are running it at 60hz locked

I'm on a cheapo 1080p monitor (some brand called AOpen) right now and it was actually set to 120hz by default instead of 60.

Also make sure to keep an eye on Windows. That bitch will sometimes switch you to 60hz after updates

DIY Gaming PCs are a tough Xmas present, we opened on Saturday morning and I am still working on this thing.

It is one of those things where each time you build a PC, the next one becomes way easier and faster to complete.

Not much you can do when the mobo has a dead PCIe slot

Move it down to the next slot while you wait for an RMA

Tech Jesus shockingly gave a good review to a prebuild a few days ago (Thermaltake $1700 with a 7800X3D and 4070 Super).

Josh, if I'm now wanting an upgraded monitor, what should I lean towards? I know we talked upping to 1440p based on that prior build. Not sure how high a refresh rate.

Also does anyone here have thoughts on curved monitors?

ETA: I just realized you all were already discussing monitors

I would recommend going with OLED for a new monitor. I also highly recommend going with an ultrawide monitor. You can jump into a relatively cheap ultrawide oled experience with this:

Alienware 34" ultrawide

If you have more money to spend and want something bigger, I would look into the LG 45" ultragear option. I have seen it in person and it's very impressive.

Just be aware if you go with an OLED, the best conditions for gaming with OLED is in a dark environment with no light or light behind the display. The two weaknesses of OLEDs are the burn in potential (can be mitigated with proper use and maintenance) and not as bright as other panel types.

Gotcha. Is there that big of a jump from the $300 range to a $650 monitor?

Yea. There are cheaper oled monitors available, but they won't be ultrawide. and would be in the 27" size.
