I would go AM5 if you're wanting to upgrade. Although, 11th gen Intel isn't bad either. Just gonna depend on the game.
AM5 should at least afford you another upgrade in the cpu.

Eta: miss you EB
Jokes aside, most people have no idea what a CPU bottleneck looks/feels like. They usually just blame either the game or GPU for stuttering

He is right. I don't. But frick him for saying it.

Unless you're just playing a bad game, full hitches are usually switching back and forth between being GPU and CPU bound repeatedly. Those will be noticeable framerate dips. If your framerate is fairly stable but it just feels bad, a bit stuttery and jittery, you're probably CPU bound.

I’ve noticed both, but framerate dips are usually the eyesore.
Honestly, I’m not looking to upgrade because of problems. I haven’t experienced anything making even think of a need. I mean my setup works great right now. I just want to, I think. But I also don’t want to, because it works great right now.

Piecing together a new build as fun. No need to justify it, as long as you have the financial means

Then why?

If my wife wouldn't give me serious side eye over it, I would probably build a new PC every year, year and a half, just for funsies

Honestly, a few things.
I regret not going 12th gen when I built. I could upgrade to 14th when i felt the need.
DDR5
PCIE 5.0 (for the GPU and SSD)
And, if I just focus on CPU, MB, RAM, and SSD, I can do it for a grand or so. Then, if I decide to, get a new GPU later.
Besides that, no reason.

DDR5? Ok, but it actually performs worse in some games than DDR4.
PCIE 5 doesn't do shite.
GPU's are barely making way of PCIE 3.
I mean it does do something on some games on storage... Keyword: some.
I wouldn't expect the tech to take off until next-gen consoles.

I don't understand. What do you gain from talking me out of building a PC?
I'm sure any number of posters here have the same knowledge and opinions as you, but none have said anything.
What makes you so special?

Eh? I aint really trying to talk you out of anything. Just making sure you're building for the right reasons. And I also don't know more than anyone on this forum... So...

It seems like you were. Maybe I am in a "seeing things negatively" type of mood right now. I blame Devious.

Go for the latest, it's dumb not to at this point. Don't buy a dead platform in 2024.
DDR5 is a lot of fun. I just manually did all of my settings and gained a ton as you can tighten them now significantly across the board.
Some people get salty they aren't on the latest when others talk about it.

Eh? I can't think of anyone getting salty about this.

What you get your timings down to btw? I thought about fricking with mine, but a 4070 on 1440P settings just seems like such a waste.

30-36-36-30 from 30-38-38-96.
Hit 5.550GHz at 1.33 on the 7700X as well and was able to beat my previous record by a bit. Got the 4070 to 9,063 on time spy extreme beating my old by a good bit.
I went ham the other night.
