I have a feeling that the 7800x3D is going to bring massive big dick gaming energy.

Yeah me too, easy decision to wait. Plus more time for prices to drop, Holiday deals etc.

Hopefully it's $400 like the 5800X3D.

I'm still on an i5 8400 from 2017. The 12400 and 5600X are both $180 now at Microcenter.

5600 a way better deal at $150 at microcenter, no reason to get the 5600x for $30 more really

So Intel keeps comparing the A770 to the 3060. But I'm confused because the A770 hardware-wise is much better.

It's because the 770 has the same MSRP as the 3060, $329.

Which is fine as the 3060 are still kind of going for that, but the 3060 at $329 is a price that's 2 years old now. So I would hope a $329 card today would outperform a $329 card from 2 years ago

Would you get a B450 or B550 for it? The MSI Tomahawk Max is only $105 now Newegg.

doesn't AMD only support 3 or so gens on a span of MOBOs/CPUs? the B450 only supports the 5000 series max so if you ever wanted to upgrade, you'd have to upgrade the MOBO as well if you got the B450. B550 should take the 5000, 7000, and assuming 9000 CPUs.

Yeah good point. When I select a B550 on PCPP though it gives me a red warning message that the BIOS could be out of date which doesn't make sense for a 5600. I don't care about overclocking.

It doesnt really matter so long as the B450 board you have can be updated to support ryzen 5000

MSI Tomahawk (450 or 550) is a good board. The VRM cooling will be better on the 550 but if there's a significant price difference and you're only going for a 5600 then a 450 will be fine.

Ryzen 7000 and beyond is on an entirely new socket, AM5. So it doesnt matter between 450 and 550 in that respect, it wont go into either being they are socket AM4.

AM4 was over 4 generations of CPU, Ryzen 1000, 2000, 3000 and 5000. AM5 will be 7000 and the next 3 gens supposedly, but obviously need the newer boards (At least B650) to support it.

AMD does a great job with support for their socket for several cycles. Intel meanwhile still thinks it's okay to just support one.

I think I'm gonna grab the ASRock X670 Steel Legend. $299 so if I can find it on sale/rebate for ~$250 over the new few months I'll pull the trigger.

The white will go with white case and theme plus 16+2+1 power phase.

Definitely. I have the b450 tomahawk with a 3700x that has a 4250/4225 hybrid all core overclock on for everyday use. I've pushed it to 4500+ all core for benchmark runs. Highly recommend that board.

Microcenter ran deals on the 7700x, 7900x and 7950x over last weekend if you bought any of those 3 chips you got a 32 GB DDR5-5600 Gskill RAM kit for free. Honestly a really amazing deal, considering you could still get $20 off buying a mobo with that, granted it's all the overpriced X670e and up boards they have out right now.

Moores law is dead talked about it this week saying AMD actually partnered with GSkill giving them rebate checks for each deal sold to help move Zen 4 stock because it wasnt selling at all. Lot of money for AMD to eat on that one, even if just at microcenter. MLID said he talked to a few microcenters and they said before that deal nobody was buying any zen 4 chips. All the previous zen chips they had long lines for upon release and the week or two after. When they ran this deal, they were selling the 7700x,7900x and 7950x like hotcakes by comparison - and nobody was buying the 7600x over the weekend

Not a bad deal, but also something tells me we'll see even better deals ahead. People just arent really wanting to adopt a new expensive chip, expensive Mobo and expensive RAM with the economy the way it is right now seems like. MLID said it wouldnt surprise me if we see an early price drop on the zen 4 chips because AMD baked in a 15-20% margin on them compared to Intel only baking in more like a 5-10% margin on their raptor lake chips for retailers.

I certainly wouldnt mind seeing some old ridiculous microcenter deals pop up. I remember getting my 3600 with a X570 board and 5700 XT and the deal was $50 off mobo AND video card at the time so I got $100 off buying all 3. I got a Gigabyte Aorus Elite X570 board for $150 ($200 retail) and XFX 5700 XT for $350 ($400 retail) at the time and it was all very very new in summer of 2019. If microcenter could run deals like that again for $50 off mobo and RX 7000 I might be all over that.

It's weird how Intel is marketing their GPUs as if Nvidia is their only competitor.

I'm pretty bored with my current setup and wanting to start tinkering again. I haven't changed anything about it since I built it 3 years ago, which is pretty odd for me.

I don't want to spend a ton of money changing things up. Current setup is a 3700x and a 2070 Super.

So, the question is am I dumb for wanting to snag another 2070 super to throw in SLi and a 5 series Ryzen CPU since they are about to plummet in price?
