Y’all keep that shite away from me. I spend enough money on my gaming rig. I don’t need any homelab temptations

Are you gaming on 11? I was under the assumption I'm not supposed to upgrade from 10 but those are just thoughts from the jump between 7 and 10

Going from a custom white box server, HP DL380 G8, big ole SAN and a Dell R720XD to a single server will end up saving me more money on power then it will cost me to upgrade

There were some initial problems with cpu performance, particularly on AMD platforms, in the first few months of the rollout of 11. Those have all been ironed out. At this point, 10 and 11 have functionally the same performance, with 11 sometimes crawling ahead slightly, but always within run to run variance/margin of error.

I'm on 10 Pro still right now... Worth upgrading to 11?

It’s honestly a very marginal upgrade, at least as far as I can tell. But, they did add more window snap options in 11, so it was worth the free upgrade for me

Finally upgraded to a 1440p monitor... my first one ever
Got a Dell S2721DGF for $299 + tax. Supposed to be arriving today.
What do you guys think? Can my 5600x/2070 Super combo last me a few more months before the RTX4000/RX7000 series launches?

The short answer is yes; the longer answer is it depends

So you're at 1440 with a top refresh of 144hz. Remind us which games you primarily play?

A mix of stuff, mostly single player, but I do play online occasionally.
League of Legends
Age of Empires
Fallen Order
Witcher 3
Shadow of Mordor/War
Jurassic World Evolution
Dirt Rally
Just to name a few.

1440p/144hz is a perfect sweet spot. Your setup should be fine running it

You'll be just fine. You likely won't be able to play the heaviest ones fully maxed out at ultra and get 140hz+, but you can likely still play those at High at 100hz+. Enjoy

P.S. Make sure you look into and set the overdrive setting for your monitor, if you have one. Common rookie mistake akin to not setting xmp on your RAM

That's a great price.

Only the top card 7900XT is launching before end of year and it's expected to be $2,000.

Yea I wasn't waiting around. If you wait around on tech you'll be waiting around forever

Yeah, I have no issue with that buy at that price. Plenty of time to chase the dragon later this year

Thanks for the advice

Unfortunately the monitor arrived damaged. There is a big curved scratch on the panel at the bottom of the screen, which ticks me off because as far as I can tell, there are no dead pixels on this monitor

You can notice the scratch when the monitor is on, but especially when the monitor is off.
I'm gonna have to repack this, and ship this back to Dell for a new replacement.
What a PITA

EDIT: And there are dead pixels around the scratch. Couldn't see them at first, but now I see them. GD
