Almost makes me wish I would have gotten the 660ti but I am still happy with my 7870.

if you are going to OC
get CPU-Z and GPU-Z programs to monitor
Ocing is as simple as going into your BIOS before windows boots and "adjusting the clock multiplier"
Like it might be set at "x22" at the moment and you turn it up to "x23" and that overclocks it.
This is obviously a very simple way of putting it and otheres here know 100x more than me. But thats the basics...
each motherboard has its own special BIOS.. so... there will be slight differences
Basically you tell it to run 10% faster by adding 10% more voltage to it. But you have to keep it COOL or else your shite wont turn on

Who cares about looks it it performs, imo, but nobody need that kind of performance.

Tbh that is not a great price. 350 is the avg.
Posted on 4/4/13 at 8:32 am to LSU Coyote
for 1440? You sure about that because everything I see is $500+
Posted on 4/4/13 at 9:33 am to Mr Gardoki
Yes. I purchased 2 of my 4 for around 350.
My crossovers were like 429 I think. This is all from eBay, idk if you are looking there.

I can second that recommendation for one of them. Bigclothcraft. Pretty amazing shipping time from Korea to Baton Rouge.

let's talk about anti-virus.
i've read a few times on here from you guys, not necessary. why? i have a year long subscription with Avast, got it for free. It seems pretty unevasive to me. i'm wondering if i should install in on the new box or do you all have a better recomendation?

In other news, I was doing some stress testing on my 7970 overclocks. And I realized I need to be paying more attention to how high the VRM temp really gets. After doing a full stress test via poclbm mining for an hour, my VRM temp #1 got up to 110C
Stupid XSPC block. I need to get a block with active VRM cooling. This block actually uses acetal over the VRMs with no water over them.
But then part of me doesn't want to order a new block because I will probably be upgrading my GPU in the next 4 months.

Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, not a resource hog, very uninvasive. Surprisingly, it's the best AV I've ever used.

Why you planning on upgrading from the 7970 so soon?

I may not upgrade... but I hate when a game comes along and I can't run it at max settings (assuming it's not just the result of bad optimization/drivers). I'm likely going to make the switch to Socket 1150 once I see the experiences of everyone else who made the switch. When I do change out my motherboard and CPU, I'm probably going to change my CPU block, and consider a GPU upgrade with a new block, and if for some reason I decide to crossfire again out of stupidity, I'll upgrade my PSU as well.
