Was coming here to post that shite. Good lord that's expensive, even for Intel.

I figured you and Coyote would be getting two of the 6950X.

I don't make Coyote money, and I have two kids and a wife. The pricing more or less solidifies my intent to stick with the mainstream Intel platform.

You sure you don't want 2? One for display...

Thank God I won't have to upgrade me 4770k for a few more years. Hopefully Zen lives up to it's expectations.

one of the best looking games on the 21:9 2560x1080 is actually Half Life 2! Kind of shocked an older title looks so good on ultrawide as there are many games i have that dont have that option.

Did you catch this dude on the front page of Reddit yesterday? I've started watching his videos and can't stop. He has a bad arse BGA machine. Just $4.5K more than the one I had and slightly nicer.

I figure you and Coyote might appreciate him

He tore into Linus once

And Linus paid him a visit

Speaking of Zen, AMD finally starting to release some stuff. Sounding phenomenal.

quote:

The comparison shows just how improved the eight-core Summit Ridge offering is compared to their “Orochi” quad module, which is also an eight-core die that powered the FX 8350.

Performance-wise, each Zen core is equivalent to two Piledriver cores. Considering Excavator cores are roughly 15% faster per clock than Piledriver, this means Zen would offer 60% more performance per clock than Piledriver – which in turn puts it in direct competition with Intel i7 5960X.

AMD’s highly-anticipated Summit Ridge will be available in both six- and eight-core arrangements. AMD Summit Ridge CPU Die has also leaked out, which reveals four Zen based cores, 16MB of L3 cache, and a dual-channel DDR4 memory controller, in addition to an integrated south bridge.

I'm fond of EEVBlog. Every video is a reminder that im a glorified accountant and not an EE.

In defense of Linus, he did not suggest repairing a $2,000 Macbook by putting the mobo in the oven, just an old POS video card that would not in any way be worth repairing unless you yourself owned a reflow machine. Nice to see real repair shops with a storefront vs. the glorified warranty drop shippers around here.

Ok, I've just spent the past hour watching his teardown videos... the Esinomed tablet is by far my favorite.

Holy Christ those are expensive.

Why in the world would any PC builder spend almost 2k on a processor?

Seriously, when would you ever fully utilize a 10 core CPU?

Not any time soon. You would most likely get less gaming performance since your per core IPC will be lower due to less OC headroom.

With high demand software specifically designed to take advantage of all those cores. Server applications (obviously), but also most Adobe software (image and video processing), as well as many other video processing applications.

But, for the most part, gaming and most mainline, daily applications for most folks not involved in video/image processing, are going to be limited to using 1 to, perhaps, 4 cores.

Yeah but no one really does that in this thread. I used to edit a lot of photography in LightRoom and wanted to get into streaming. Purchased a 6core years ago with much satisfaction and won't turn back to just quad for my main machines.

I want the Octa-Core but will wait another gen for Skylake. Socket LGA-3647

This thing will be a monster supporting Hexa-Channel memory.

hmm looking at these benchmarks got me thinking.

I'm in the market right now to build a new PC. I'm thinking of going z97 over z170. Mostly because I have 16GB of DDR3 which will save me that expense, and because the 4790k / z97 combo is a little bit cheaper.

Looking at the benchmarks it doesn't seem worth it to invest more money in DDR4 and Z170. Would everyone agree?

I'm going with the GTX 1080 for more information on the build.

There are some boards that accept ddr3 on skylake if the dif is enough for you to go to skylake. Although, the faster ddr4 could also make a dif on some cpu bound scenarios.

There are Z170 motherboards that support regular DDR3 (i.e., 1.5/1.65v). Not many, but some.

Here's a gaming benchmark video to see the difference in various games. LINK

Not a big deal either way. Best to look at benchmarks of the games you like, though.
