Heads up, nerds. I have a question. A real one.

I feel like I'm leaning toward moving on from the consoles. Let's say I sold my PS4 and pooled that money into a $700 budget. How far into the dirt would my dick be knocked once it was built and I opened up BF3 on it? (Compared to BF4 on a PS4)

I wouldn't consider BF3 as a gauge for PC vs. console, other than framerate I guess. On a properly configured $700 build, you can turn BF3 up to max settings at 1080p, and it'll look better than it would look on any console, but it's still a game from 2011. And I'm pretty sure BF4 uses the same engine with a few texture updates.

Thanks for the response. I know that BF3 is an older game, but I only would use this PC to play BF3, Warfighter, BF4 and maybe the next Battlefield game or a CoD game. It's just a recreational PC, but I do want it to have solid graphics and performance.

What do you think of this guide?

How about a monitor? Can I just hook the think up to my TV?

I'm partial to mine.

Your intended games are of particular importance here. Because Battlefield multiplayer is the exception to the rule of GPU vs. CPU. Yes, it still needs GPU power, but the CPU affects frame rate much more than it does in pretty much every other game. And while the game is core-hungry, it appears that a quad-core i5 is still the better option over the AMD 8320/8350.

Sure, but are you thinking you're going to be able to use this for couch gaming with a controller? Because if you try to play BF multiplayer with a controller on PC, you are going to have a bad time.

However, this would be what I'd try to do for a little over $700:

Yeah, I don't think I can do this keyboard and mouse thing. It's much more natural for me with a controller.

I'm not playing this to be the best, I just want to enjoy it. So if you think controller vs. keyboard and mouse is going to be that big of a mountain to climb when playing online and that it would be miserable, then I guess I'll stick to my PS4.

ETA: Thanks for your input...your guide is top notch, too.

You might be able to get away with using a controller in COD, but BF players are more hardcore and spend way more time playing/practicing. It would take time to get used to M/KB if you're not familiar with it, but it has a much, much higher skill ceiling, which is why you need it to play competitive online FPS. I'm sure some people still use a controller, but there is no aim assist in BF for PC.

Is this a deal?

I haven't paid attention to monitors lately and want to move on up from 1080p finally.

I'm only rocking a 290 right now so I might just go 1440 if 4K will strain it too much.

So I sold my Cloud headset and put it towards some Sennheiser 598s. Should be here tomorrow from Amazon.

What to do about a mic though? There's that cheap little Zalman clip on mic, and there's the Blue Snowball Ice for $40 I'm considering. Anything better for that price? Really wanted something with a mute button on it but not a must, just use Curse voice and can bind the push to talk to a macro.

Modmic antlions are nice and have a mute button.

Are you getting an amp/DAC combo for those cans?

I have an Asus Xonar DG sound card that has an amp built in, so probably not. Maybe eventually down the road the Fiio ek10. See how they sound first with what I have.

I saw that Modmic but at the same price point as the Blue Snowflake I don't think it's worth it for the quality difference.

Speaking of headphones, the right ear of my Q701s suddenly stopped working yesterday. Opened the right ear and one of the wires had broken from the solder. It was a quick fix with a soldering iron, but still, wtf $200 headphones... spend an extra 10 seconds on the solder joint at the factory plz.
