eta: if someone ever asks you to replace the glass only (not lcd digitizer, just glass) on and iphone 5, id recommend you kindly request that they kiss the absolute brownest part of your arse. i swear to god - like a 2 hour process. 2 hours of painstaking, meticulous scraping.
lol, I learned that the hard way too

Did you think it would be different from the 4 and 4s?
Every smart phone these days is using "soldered" LCD and digitizer

I refuse to frick with phones for anyone besides myself. If I throw it across the room then I don't have to explain to anyone why there phone was being a dickhead.

Powerline adapter a lightning deal right now
Since we were talking about this a couple of days ago I thought someone might be interested. I feel like I am carrying this thread today

Well since the 4 and 4s total assembly is so cheap, we've never done a glass only replacement. Knew it was more work but the full assembly is only like $25 so why bother trying.
The difference in price between the 5 glass and 5 full assembly is what prompted this adventure. NEVAR AGAIN!

Can't wait..
Will upgrade to IB-E just because I'm not waiting another 1.5yrs for HW-E.
In terms of DDR4, that will make those APUs really shine. The MOBO vendors should offer soldered GDDR5 RAM to the MOBO for APUs. Until then the only hope is DDR4 to the platform.

It was suppose to be skylake, but with the Haswell refresh Broadwell will probably feature DDR4.

i should be able to wait it out unless we move earlier than that and kill cable off. then ill have to make a decision on the HTPC.
as it is, i plan on using my current z77 mobo/cpu combo in the htpc and upgrading the pc to x99

That is a long time waiting for an HTPC.
You want to game on it? Buy an 8320/mATX/7950. That will be enough for 1080.

not really, ive got my current pc hooked up to the TV via a really long hdmi cable snaked through the wall

so the building of another one just for the tv is pretty frivolous for me

dropped my iphone 4s today and cracked the screen. Display itself is fine. Any idea what it costs to replace? do it myself?
Posted on 6/15/13 at 3:05 pm to puffulufogous
$35
You have to replace the digitizer (cracked glass) and the lcd (display). They're both soldered together.
Its fairly simple, just can be a pain sometimes

So I was finally right in the middle of doing my first socket swap on a MOBO. I got the old socket off cleanly and cleaned up the left over solder with some solder wick and an iron. Well when I get the new socket all ready to go and in place I go to turn on my machine to solder it in place and the fricking infared bulb popped. I have no spare one and a new one is $58 and week to get here.
This has not been my weekend at all between this and the shite yesterday. FML

I'm looking to upgrade my gfx card, currently running a 560ti. I've only ever used nvidia and I understand their "numbers", so to speak, but I want to consider an ATI card so I have more options as far as value is concerned. I was looking at a 670 from nvidia and was wondering what would be considered "equal" in ATI language, or if anyone had any other input.
I recognize the answer is probably already in this thread but I'm lazy as frick, so thanks in advance for anyone kind enough to help out
